Ok- I know, I ain't giving it up-but I just bought a new Blue Tooth headset, where can I find the controls for the Blue Tooth interaction in the Control Panel? Of Course, the bastards don't have it clearly marked of course, and there is a blue tooth light on the case indicating that it is capable (I know, I bought the machine from Dell in 2006, but damnit, it still works).

Thanks

Go to your local VA and ask the IT department.

They just upgraded from Windows 2000.

Yes, highly likely someone seeking Bluetooth connectivity is ignoring the Internet.

I added a bit more RAM and a larger HDD to an old Dell XP-Pro machine I've been legging out since the late Oughties, and it runs Windows 10 just beautifully for my purposes.  Before that it ran 8.1 fairly well, too.

You'll are as bout as helpful as a broken leg. There must be some cheap ass old man out there how rocks out on a Blue tooth head set and a 9 year old dell? I aint buying a fucking new computer (hell, I just got a replacement power cord for my 100mg Zip drive so that I can get stuff off my 1995 486 DX4 laptop with a busted A drive). I will not join in with all this new fangled crap (except for the headset, and the new IPOD, that's pretty sweet too).

You should see an option under the 'Add New Hardware' area.    It's been too long for me to help more than that.

Then you will figure this out on your own.

I ain't helping to keep an XP machine usable.

There's a fair to middlin' chance that your 9 or 10 year old Dell laptop doesn't even have a bluetooth radio, depending on what you bought. I'm guessing you didn't buy a top of the line model at the time.

I don't recall Bluetooth being included in XP. IIRC, you had to add a card or USB device, and load the drivers for that.
Could be wrong. It's happened before.

Hey, just post "Should I get Win10 for this machine?" and a few NickBurns types will be all over this thread.

It was in SP2, but there's a better than decent chance that it doesn't even include generic drivers for the device type that it is reporting as.

That sounds right. My, where has the time gone?!  (You can have my Win95 install floppies when you pry them from my cold, dead hands. Or I find them. Whichever.)

We still have Microsoft support for quite a few machines running XP embedded . I dont think they offer any level of support at this point for the other versions of XP.

No.

Well, I guess given the OP's stated technological prowess he could...

Fuck No.

This is the worst advice ever.  Not to mention it wouldn't solve his problem because I doubt he has Bluetooth hardware in his machine.

I use Linux every day.  It has a place in the enterprise and where it can be properly supported.  It DOES NOT belong on the desktop for non-technical types.

I know it has gotten friendlier over the past few years.  However, It's still not ready for the average user who can't even decipher how to use a Bluetooth device. (No offense OP)

The BT stack included in XP doesn't have lots of functionality. There're 3rd party stacks that includes much goodness.

ETA: BlueSoleil made the best of the bunch, imo.

Shit... We have about 50 running XP still. Granted, they're not on the Internet. And even better, I just removed the last machine running motherfucking NT about a year ago!!!

A lot of our instruments our "upgrade resistant". I just had to reinstall some software (brand new, mind you) that literally looked like it was written on a Commodore 64 with 8 bit block lettering.

Lol. I actually ran XP64 on my home PC. Had to ditch it because it turns out just about nobody made drivers for anything for it.

I am using a Dell D630 with a bluetooth mouse to type this.

I just looked and it is a toshiba stack. If I recall correctly, I had to buy the BT radio off ebay, and used the part to find the drivers I needed.
