Ok- I know, I ain't giving it up-but I just bought a new Blue Tooth headset, where can I find the controls for the Blue Tooth interaction in the Control Panel? Of Course, the bastards don't have it clearly marked of course, and there is a blue tooth light on the case indicating that it is capable (I know, I bought the machine from Dell in 2006, but damnit, it still works). Thanks |

At this point, I can't offer any advice that allows somebody to keep a Windows XP machine running in good conscience. If its not connected to the internet.... then maybe meh. Otherwise... OP.... upgrade your shit. It's all fucked up and old and not secure at all. |

You'll are as bout as helpful as a broken leg. There must be some cheap ass old man out there how rocks out on a Blue tooth head set and a 9 year old dell? I aint buying a fucking new computer (hell, I just got a replacement power cord for my 100mg Zip drive so that I can get stuff off my 1995 486 DX4 laptop with a busted A drive). I will not join in with all this new fangled crap (except for the headset, and the new IPOD, that's pretty sweet too). |

I ain't helping to keep an XP machine usable.
It's an ethical thing at this point. |

Thanks What we heard: I've gotten quality advice before and wanted nothing of it. Now, if you guys wouldn't mind, I'd like some quality advice. The rest is history. |

I can't find it, I think Michael Dell jipped me back in 2007. Never trust a UT drop out... There's a fair to middlin' chance that your 9 or 10 year old Dell laptop doesn't even have a bluetooth radio, depending on what you bought. I'm guessing you didn't buy a top of the line model at the time. |

I don't recall Bluetooth being included in XP. IIRC, you had to add a card or USB device, and load the drivers for that.
Could be wrong. It's happened before. Hey, just post "Should I get Win10 for this machine?" and a few NickBurns types will be all over this thread. |

It was in SP2, but there's a better than decent chance that it doesn't even include generic drivers for the device type that it is reporting as. Quoted:

My, where has the time gone?! (You can have my Win95 install floppies when you pry them from my cold, dead hands. Or I find them. Whichever.) Sorry, OP, you *might* be better off upgrading. |

I dont think they offer any level of support at this point for the other versions of XP. |

Yep. Although I hear formatting the drive and installing Linux is a great way to stick it to the man! Quoted:

No.
Well, I guess given the OP's stated technological prowess he could... Fuck No. This is the worst advice ever. Not to mention it wouldn't solve his problem because I doubt he has Bluetooth hardware in his machine. I use Linux every day. It has a place in the enterprise and where it can be properly supported. It DOES NOT belong on the desktop for non-technical types. I know it has gotten friendlier over the past few years. However, It's still not ready for the average user who can't even decipher how to use a Bluetooth device. (No offense OP) Quoted:

Go to your local VA and ask the IT department. They just upgraded from Windows 2000. Our facility upgraded from XP (with full internet access, I add) less than 6 months ago Shit... We have about 50 running XP still. Granted, they're not on the Internet. And even better, I just removed the last machine running motherfucking NT about a year ago!!! A lot of our instruments our "upgrade resistant". I just had to reinstall some software (brand new, mind you) that literally looked like it was written on a Commodore 64 with 8 bit block lettering.

I actually ran XP64 on my home PC. Had to ditch it because it turns out just about nobody made drivers for anything for it. |
