I'm hooked, it's like a cross between Donnie Darko-Fringe-The X Files- Goonies...
Non stop for 5 hours now. Netflix and Amazon prime is a love hate relationship.. |

Yes, a little bit of dreamcatcherisc to it.. But not ssdd. I also am getting some looper.
I don't know why we are judging this like wine or scotch like other wine and scotch but I find it works and fits-appropriately as to lure specific brand drinkers to try new vats as to new tv series to ....... Idk where I'm going but you get the point.(I hope) 
Just finished chapter 8... I want more. Including some new scotch I have not tried yet. |

Op, thanks for this thread. Was debating watching the show. When you mentioned all the shows it reminds you of, and then tossed in goonies, that sealed the deal for me. I love the fuckin Goonies. My all time favorite kid movie ever. I was thise kids age when the movie came out. And my friends and i did the same shit the goonies did growing up. Same shit, different time zone.

I binge-watched it yesterday. Very cool show. A couple soap-opera-drama moments that I wound up speeding through, but I thought they did a good job lampshading some old tropes---for instance, Click To View Spoiler
I liked it. Hence the reason I stayed up till 1AM finishing it.

Just finished Episode 2. I'm done. The most compelling questions after two hours were: "Where's Will?" "What did the bad government people let loose? (a la 'The Mist.') "When will Steve get into Cindy's (Nancy's) pants?" This show has all the tension of a strand of spaghetti cooked a minute too long. |

I have no idea which interpretation / evaluation of the show is closer to reality, but I dig your asshole-like arrogance. [NOT intended as a CoC violation] Reminds me of myself.

My buddy at work told me about this so I started Episode One tonight. Stranger Things is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! Were there Mp5Ks n the early 80s? I know there was the MP5 Briefcase Gun....but I don't remember the K back in the early 1980s. ETA: by God, yes they did. Developed in the mid 1970s!!!! |

You must admit the pace in the first two episodes was sluggish, with nothing more than veiled 'Cloverfield'-like references to some scary thing, a slumber party, Winona Ryder doing her best tweaker imitation, a strange young girl who hides and cries, and a guy trying to pop a high-school chick's cherry. I'm not sure I want to have to wait for Season 2 to get to some real action. |
I finished two more episodes last evening for a total of three.....I think I'm done. It got so boring I walked the dog and did not even bother pausing it. 
I guess it's OK for those that were kids during the time Goonies came out (mid-80s) but I was a grown man then and never cared for that movie and all this series feels like is a 8-hour Goonies movie.

It started a little slow but starts building steam 3 or 4 episodes in. I'm glad we stuck it out. |

We sat down with the intention of watching something else but saw that it was out and gave it a go. We wound up watching four episodes that first night. We TRIED to savor it by NOT powering through the final four but once it got started we were just along for the ride. Hell of a ride, too.
It was like stepping back into my childhood with the music, the clothing, the hair, the bikes, the boom boxes, the family at the table for meals and people looking out for one another. This show is so much more than horror or drama or sci-fi. It's television done RIGHT. There isn't too much exposition and we are allowed to organically arrive at conclusions without being told what to think, the directors are giving you eyegasms with gorgeous sets and shots, and the scripts are very well executed. The acting was perfect for the most part but a few gaffs happened here and there. By the sixth episode, I was depressed that there weren't 24 episodes. I'd say that this is one of the BEST and most original series that has come out in forever. |
