Accidentally kicked a wire and my tower fell over.  Somehow killed the hard drive.  Dell is sending me a new one; should be here tomorrow... But shit... It's only 3pm and I have work I need to be doing....  AND NO ARFCOM!  Typing this message as my phone battery trickles down rapidly from 29%.

Send help... Coworkers... So boring...  Need gun pics....

Leave.
Nothing left to do there.

Get a beer.

Dropping a spinning drive usually isn't good.

Took my laptop 33 days to have 8 to 10 keys stop working.
Best Buy says they need to send it out. Soonest they think it'll be repaired is 2 weeks.
So I'm down to my tablet and phone neither of which I like to use for email due to their keyboards on on the screen.
Best Buy won't do an exchange or refund either. From now on its  $150 Walmart laptops.

I'd agree but this is a small company.  Boss hates to spend extra on anything.  End result: this.

End result is he finds out backup aint extra, it's a standard cost of doing business.  To be fair though, it's rarely a lesson learned the easy way.

this is why we don't allow users to put their towers on the floor, that happens waaay too often.

Your hard drive may not be dead.  Depending on what happened to it the technicians might be able to connect it to another machine to extract critical info off.  We do it here at work all the time.

when your replacement drive comes, hook up the old one to power/SATA and see if it will fire up.  You might be able to pull your docs/porn off of it.

Ummm.... oops?

That said, I doubt that it is dead... hard drives are pretty tough these days.
