Been a dewalt fan for a few years and it's time for a new cordless set. What does ARFCOM use, let's hear your " I swear by Xbrand stories".  What do you use?

I have a number of Ryobi cordless tools and have been pleased with them.

I'm just a weekend shop warrior so I don't use them heavily (like construction/contractor).

I usually by Dewalt tools around Black Friday when my current ones start wearing out. I would say every 5-7 years or so the batteries start crapping out.

DeWalt. I'll be using my 18v shit until every last battery dies, and I have bought 6 spares in the last year on sale.

Then whatever flavor they have by then.

There are some good fathers day sales starting and dewalt is all over Lowe's

As long as you get the new brushless stuff coming out they're all about the same. I have Milwaukee fuel 18 & 12 stuff, was given a brand new makita 18v at work. No problems.

Dewalt corded fanboy here.  My table saw & chop/mitre saw cost me a mortgage payment and honey do each.  But recently got a Mikita cordless drill/impact set.  Really impressed.  The impact will take the lug nuts off the car.  Spec is 90#'s and I go over.  Battery life is really good as well.  That said, some of the Rigid (Home Depot) line is OEM'ed by both Dewalt and Mikita - their lifetime warranty extends to batteries - had I known....

Dewalt
Milwaukee
Makita
Bosch

All as interchangeable as Ford/Chevy/Ram/Toyota pickup truck argument.  Seriously, all four will do the job, it's just like the pickup debate.

Look for the ones that are running deals where they throw in free batteries.  They all do it at some point during the year.

I've got some new Dewalt 20 volt Li-ion and they are VERY good. You can drive MANY 3" deck screws before you need to recharge or change the 2 amp/hr battery.I use the 6 1/2" saw with a 5 amp/hour battery and it is also very, very good.

Milwaukee M18 line, every truck in our shop has at least the starter drill/driver set. Most guys liked them enough they converted their personal tools as well.

That's what the pros are using or switching to for the most part, they got a big jump on the competition as far as "Next Gen" tech.

I switched everything over last year, no regrets.

I've been running the dewalt 20v for a couple years now. No regrets. The 4 and 5amp hour batteries run deck screws all day. I just picked up the 1/2" impact and that thing is awesome. 700 ftlbs fastening and 1200 breaking. Rediculous for a cordless.

Only thing I'll add here is Hilti. Them fuckers can run, but they're expensive.

The 18V Makita impact/hand drills are pretty good, had them around for a couple years. Been abused like you wouldn't believe, and they still run.

The 20V stuff runs better, but the battery life is much worse. And batteries are expensive as hell, too.

Accessories are a big one too.

With Milwaukee you can get the 6 pack charger, that thing is great. Also their big radio is top notch. The heated jacket with the M18 adapter isn't bad either.

They need to get working on a framing nailer and concrete vibrator though.

I have a Dewalt brushless set right now. Had a Ryobi set prior I was decently happy with and sufficient for typcial homeowner use. Like others have said, Dewalt, Bosch, Milwaukee, Hilti all make good tools.

I just got a DeWalt 20V lithium ion drill.

Honestly from what I read nowadays all these companies are getting by on past reputation, not awesome products.

I haven't needed to use it so I can't really comment but I do like the nice compact size/weight and feel. And for under $100 with 2 batteries and a charger and bag for my purposes I think it's going to be just fine.

why not go dewalt 20v and use the adapter for your dewalt nicad tools that are still in good shape/rarely used?

If you want a smaller form factor, the milwaukee 12v is very nice

I just bought a cordless set and almost went with the DeWalt 20v.  I also looked at the Milwaukee pack as Home Depot was offering free additional batteries, but they didn't have any in stock.
I ended up with a Makita 18v set.  I used my brother's Makita for about a year doing remodeling and really liked it.  It was the same price as the DeWalt and came with a cordless grinder as well and was on sale.

ETA:  My Home Depot had this set for $200.

NAPA has a good deal going for Dewalt 20 volt drills if you trade in your old 18 volt, but I don't think it's for the high end brushless.

Yes. The 12v Milwaukee and Bosch are great products.  I have a Bosch 12v setup I've put together over the years with a drill, right angle drill, impact driver, little reciprocating saw, and the multi tool.  You would be amazed at how this 12v setup can do 90% of what a homeowner needs at a lower cost and weight.

I have almost the entire line of the porter cable 18v tools.

They have been replaced by the 20v, but I would expect the same quality.  While not a professional, I do far more work with my tools than any weekend warrior.

Dewalt seems like the standard homeowner brand, but my porter cable one are just as good and slightly more affordable.

Same here. I like the fact that all of the current lineup runs off of the same battery.  the only draw back seems to be they are a Home Depot exclusive.

I have good luck with ryobi tools for many years(green ones) with that said my Milwaukee fuel tools have been flawless.  The 1/2 impact with 1100lbs made taking three half shafts out of my explorer much easier.  The smaller 1/2 and 3/8 impacts help in the tight spaces.  The 1/4 impact is nice and torquey too.  Sawzall is nice and the full size 7 1/4 cordless circular saw is powerful but heavy.  No problem going through 2x4 or 3/4" plywood with plenty of power to go.

I use my 20v porter cable tools for everything. Awesome tools and very affordable. They've built countless projects around the house and I built a pig pen and pig barn using the porter cable cordless impact, drill, and circular saw. Great tools

I have this kit

I use almost all corded tools for my little home maintenance LLC.

I picked up a cheap set a few months ago from Kobalt. Drill - circular - saws all - light - charger - 2 batteries and a bag for 130 bucks on sale.

Finished up a small project today that involved cutting up a sheet of T-111 and half a dozen 1x6's and 1x4's. Probably only drove 40 2" screws. I used up 1 battery and half of another. No electric at this job. I was amazed at how easily that little circular chopped up that T-111.

18v Lithium.

I know it is not Pro level, but since I use corded 85% of the time - works for me at a low price. Long warranty as well. I wore out the Ryobi tools, so this was a replacement set for me.

At work we have used Dewalt, Rigid, Makita and Milwaukee.  All have received hard use, impacts and drills. Mostly impacts thought. all 18+ volt tools

Rigid batteries seem to have the highest failure rate as far as burning up while on the tool.. Had an impact body come apart on one.

Dewalt again had a body come apart on one. other than that good recharge life on the batteries etc.

Makita they keep going and going. Although batteries seem to wear out quicker as far as number of charges. Not as much horsepower as the Milwaukee's also.

Milwaukee, like the Makita's keep going and going. Good battery life as far as number of recharges. Also Milwaukee impacts seem to be able to knock loose most of what the others cant.

Based on casual observation on what we've gone thru over the years.

We run about 50/50 Makita and Milwaukee these days.

I've not seen anyone post Porter Cable 20v lithium stuff. I've ran it all. Dewalt, Milwaukee, rigid, etc. For the money I really like my Porter cable set and I still have Milwaukee Dewalt and snapon. They have 2 different grades. I have the nicer of the 2 that has a built in light and battery level indicator button.

I've even bought extras of the refurbished stuff off eBay and had no issues. My brother in law and I were installing a new electric service, he is/was a die hard Milwaukee guy. His batteries went dead. I busted out my Porter cable drill and impact. After 20 minutes of him using them he was sold. Bought the drill and impact set refurbished off eBay for 125.00.
