If I buy an ebook or magazine can I share it with others (family and friends).  For free, not selling.

That is a tricky subject. Many eBook retailers have a lending option, to do it without stepping on toes.  And if you lend the device it's on, that isn't a big deal either.  Copying the eBook is a no-no IMO.

Depends on where you got the book from.  Each place has its own policy.

So far the only ones I've bought are from Amazon.

No copy, I bought my dad an ebook on Frank Sinatra and I've got no interest in it but I don't want to get DMCA'd if I give it to a relative.

If their device is registered to your account they can download whatever books are on your account.  Amazon generally lets five devices on the account have simultaneous access.  If their device isn't registered to your account then you likely can't share the books.  Some can be lent once but it isn't worth the hassle.

Are these the ones on their Kindle ebook reader? These are a bitch to liberate but it can be one. The thing about ebooks is they're so cheap I'd just tell my family to pony up.

The Arfcom Amazon referer messes it up or something.
