While on vacation my supermicro server running PfSense gave up the ghost. Looked like it was a power supply, but after swapping it out its still dead. Looks like I would need to buy a new board for around $340. So before I go off to order it, any arfcom geeks have any suggestions for alternative firewall/IDS solutions within the same price range. Looking around the little SOHO appliances look like a kids toy in comparison to what I am able to do with PfSense on my current hardware. Ive been eyeballing the EdgeRouter but its only a firewall with some pretty sad hardware in it, and no IDS.

Some of the features I really like are:

- Region/Country blocking

- VPN, both server and client

- snort

- rackmounted

Im thinking there isn't anything else, but I am no expert when it comes to what is available.

Not enough NIC ports on the $300. My current board has 4, of which I use three. This is basically what I have. I bet its even the same board that I am using. The SOC is the same at least. Not sure how many variations of that combo Intel puts out.
