Have any of you lost teeth?
A couple years ago I was in a bad wreck and had all my front teeth on top and bottom knocked out. Let me tell you. It sucked majorly. It also seems weird with all the advances in medical science that they haven't figured out how to make teeth regrow. It's obviously possible. |

I have a tooth that was broken in half over 15 years ago.
The dentists want to rip the rest of that fucker out and do a full false tooth. I won't let them, for the time being; even if I do look 87 times more creepy with a worn out cap. So far it has been capped, then repaired like twice, then recapped a few years ago. It's worn down enough to where it needs to be fixed again, or just replaced with an implant. I kind of wonder how much of that capping material I have eaten over the years.
They say a permanent implant is better, but it will have to be replaced after a certain amount of time. So I'm all like: "LOL, no. Fuck that shit, bro." Plus I have had a history of always getting hit on the head, so I'm not even about to risk an implant.

I'm considering implants after losing multiple teeth, not from decay but from cracking. I didn't get good teeth genes and have had issues with teeth cracking in half. Bee through bridges, metal post and spent more than $10k in the last two years on dental work. It's gotten to the point of either implants or dentures, I can't decide as I currently have 5 missing teeth, leaning towards implants though. |

I've got about 5 grand in my implant. The socket and post are supposed to last the rest of your life, but there is a 5% failure rate. The crown on top is supposed to last 15 to 20 years. A friend of mine had his fall out! I had a root resorption on an eye tooth. It just became painful and it had to come out. My implant looks pretty normal, except the gumline is set really high on it for some reason, but it sits mostly behind my lip, the part you see when I smile looks fine. No pain no more. I can't say that about my root canal teeth.
If I had the money, I'd have the root canal teeth pulled and replaced. |

Already been told that to have implants I have to get coral installed in my upper jaw because the bone it too thin to my sinus cavity. Why we evolved to have teeth that can't replace themselves like sharks I will never understand. Lot of people before antibiotics died from simple tooth infections. |

Tooth decay and related infection was one of the leading causes of death in the United States prior to modern dentistry. |

Quoted: Gee, I wonder why that might be? Hmmmm. Something...something..."standards of care"....something. Hmmmm. I could probably get my appendix removed in Uganda for a third of what I'd pay here. No you can thank insurance companies and lawyers, every dentist I saw in Saudi Arabia was an English speaking white dentist educated in the USA. Your ignorance is showing your ass you might want to pull up your pants. Also my favorite dentist is in Baja Tijuana to be exact and he is an American who graduated from Loma Linda and is the best dentist I have ever had. CA dentist quoted $7K Dr. Torres (TJ) quoted just under $3k for the exact same work. |

Just EXACTLY WHAT makes you think it is 'obviously possible'??? Quoted:

I knocked a front one out when I was younger. I didn't have insurance at the time. Now I need a bone graft to get am implant because I have lost so much bone structure around it. $8000 or so all in (Canadian dollars but still not cheap) and insurance won't cover any of it.
It is a total of three to four surgeries and I agree 100% with the OP. Tooth replacement technology is seriously lacking. |

I don't see why we couldn't 3d print a tooth and then put some special stem cells in there so that the blood vessels would grow in there.
Or hell can't they grow some people teeth in a pig or somthing now? |
| I can't be numbed by the shots they give. Spent 3 hours in the chair over 3 appointments getting a root canal done (long story). At my crown prep appointment a week later I told them that the tooth still hurt. They said it isn't possible. Turns out tooth was cracked and they had to pull it anyway. |

It's gotten to the point of either implants or dentures, I can't decide as I currently have 5 missing teeth, leaning towards implants though. I had the same problem. I went with the mini dental implants. They're basically dentures permanently affixed into the jaw with metal posts.. it cost $10,000 and it's about an 8 month process. As of now, I'm about 6 months into the process. All my sockets are placed, it's just a matter of my jaws healing completely and creating and placing the final plates... In the meantime, I've been wearing dentures and they suck... |
| I work with Endodontist and Oral Surgeons on a daily basis and dental work is very EXPENSIVE. These dental insurance companies give you hardly nothing in benefits and expect that to last for a year. If you don't go in network they screw you in out of network fees. They want you to go to these in network DDS dentist that are contacted with the insurance companies and have set cost for procedures. Basically the DDS dentists are working for these insurances companies that determine what their services cost. Dental Insurance is a total scam. One root canal and crown and your insurance is maxed. Should be against the law. |

They can do tooth implants, but they cost around $5000 each. I have one. Insurance covers none of the costs. You need a cheaper dentist! I had a tooth pulled by the Army and I'm still not even sure why, the one in front of it had a crown and the one behind it had issues as well so I said fuck it. Pull the crowned one and the other one and put in a 3 unit bridge implant. Total of two implants and a three unit bridge and I don't even think it costs me $5K for the whole shebang. |

I have all mine, but need 3 pulled and am to cheap to do it. I have soft enamel, so my wisdom teeth only came in partly formed and most of my teeth are slightly chipped. I deal with it and there's no pain so it is what it is. |

We do replace teeth, just not generally after the age at which we can successfully reproduce. If we didn't hit puberty until age 25 or so we could possibly have had a 3rd set of teeth. Or even just replace them throughout life. |
