I wouldn't fuck around with some cryptic username, but certainly turn on two-factor authentication if they offer it.
With two factor authentication you need something besides a password -- with Google for example, if you've setup two factor authentication and you "successfully" log in from a strange computer they will SMS or call you with a PIN/passcode you need to complete logging in. ETA If your user name is something like "bsmith" then maybe adding some meaningful gibberish at the end would prevent all the brain-dead Brian/Bob/Boffo Smiths from fucking up your parent's account. Try something like "firs initial", "last name", "zip code". I sometimes try to log into Google with my first name and am automatically given the captcha / second response test and then realize that I put in the wrong username. "[email protected]" sounds like a good idea until every idiot Greg under the sun keeps trying to log into your email. |
