[ARCHIVED THREAD] - CMP SOLD OUT of Garands! (Page 1 of 6)
| Is this an actual "hey guys, we really don't have any more" or just the usual "we have oversold the cleaned/graded/tested inventory for the next few months, and we are not taking any more orders until we get to those". Because they've done the latter several times before. The rifles eventually become available again. |

| They've been saying the salad days were coming to an end since a few years back. They'll keep getting them in from .gov sources from time to time to sell (like how the carbines have been). You'll still be able to get one, you'll just have to make sure you're quick about it when they release. |
| Nothing like this will last forever. I'm glad I got some when they were $300 a pop, luck of the draw. Managed to get all but an IHC back in the day. Maybe more will become available. I do miss the days when you could get a M1903, or M1917, or an M03-A3, or a M1 from the US, Greece, or Danish returns. And when the M1 Carbines were fresh in from Bavaria. Maybe we will see some more returns soon? We still have hope the M1911s will be available. Heck, I even remember the M14 parts kits. |
|
I suspect it just means they don't have any ready to go right now so they're not taking orders. They have to have somebody pull guns out of crates, clean them up, repair them and grade them. That takes time, and when they get behind they close it down for new orders until they get caught up. |

With trump there is a chance we can get the Korean rifles and carbines back for the CMP to sell With hillary, not a chance. Should would probably take them back and order them to be destroyed and remelted. Those were never going to CMP. Normal commercial channels, ie Century. |

That takes time, and when they get behind they close it down for new orders until they get caught up. This, they have stopped taking new orders before. It just means they are really behind, which we knew. Most of what people have been receiving lately for service grades are heavily refurbed, usually fully reparked and in new stocks. This takes a lot of time per rifle. My bet is they come back in a few months... at a higher price point. |

They're sold out of old wodden rifles with increasingly expensive calibers! The horror! Son, that's the rifle that Patton used to kill Tojo and Hitler. WITH ONE SHOT! You'd better done show some respect as every single innovation in firearms technology, since the first Garand was hewn from the thighbone of Jesus himself, has been a step backwards. |

Crap. Wish I had placed that order last week. But noooooo, Scotchy decided he needed to replace his 20 year old flip phone, and figured another Garand could wait a bit. ![]() Quoted:

Because they've done the latter several times before. The rifles eventually become available again. Amazon has a very recent documentary on the Garand, and they still have a crapload of rifles. Over 100k IIRC I'm pretty sure this is just a "we need some time to catch up" thing. |

I did a blog post on this for AllOutdoor which gave me a reason to call the CMP and ask.
They deferred to having me talk the Chief Operating Officer. I'm waiting for a call back but may not get it today. If anyone is interested here's what I wrote over there: I'll update if I get a call back. CMP Service Grades "Sold Out" Is This the End of an Era? |

Never understood why they will sell a person multiple rifles. It should be one per person. Their inventory is obviously not infinite and the people that buy them and resell them are undermining the point of the program. It's not called the cheap garand program. It's the civilian marksmanship program. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Yeah, but I'm lazy. And I do already have one, bought for $350 back in the early '90s. |

Just looked 2 days ago and there were Field and Service grades available It's been discussed, the special grades are a good bang for your buck the services have been specials for a while now, just with nos usgi barrels instead of new criterions they've been building the field grades too on new parked receivers so that begs the question... if they're building all of them instead of just pulling them out of crates and grading them, is this the end? which fucking figures because hand to God i put an order in the fucking mailbox 6 hours ago
