A side from direct flights why are these so expensive? Looking going from Boston to Tampa (Indian Rocks Beach) and the Jetblue direct flights are anywhere from $400-$450 where as the 1 stop layover from Southwest start at $200. I've flown both and had good experiences on both. I do like the direct flights, but for another $200 more damn.

You already have the obvious answer, people are willing to pay more for a direct flight.

Supply and demand come into it a lot, maybe the jetblue flight is almost full and one of the southwest legs is half-empty.

Jetblue is also seen as a premium product compared to Southwest (leather seats, larger seats, satellite tv, nice snacks etc.)

Makes sense. Hell I might even do the Jetblue flight still. I don't like taking the gamble of hopping on another flight.

Fly Spirit and have a rich cultural experience when they cancel the flight, or they drive the plane into a wall. Honestly all the airlines are crap now but Spirit continually reaches new Lows.
Just put wings on it and off you go.

I haven't flown in years but I took spirit a couple weeks ago. Buying my ticket was an experience. Reallly? $10 to choose a seat? No thank you...and then they stuck me next to a chick who got sandwiched between me and some kind of phone board near the the middle of the plane. I moved to an empty window seat.... I've never been in a airline seat that didn't recline.

Whatever...got me home for $113, direct flight.

I have. Certain Embraier  Jets, short hauls made in Brazil, have three seats all the way in the rear they charge full for but due to cabin design they dont recline so be careful when ordering airline seats. And BTW they dont discount them and wont change them in flight. I even have a card for a medical device and they wouldnt change me, "I think United". Flying Spirit is a dice throw. Other airlines have extra airplanes and rotating crews to make up for delays, Spirit doesnt. If the pilot has been up to long waiting for an airframe then even if the plane arrives the flight is still canceled. Its just a chicken crap organization.
