It is interesting to me how music can take your mind back to a different time.
It was like June of 1994, I had just graduated/commissioned, and I was going to Arizona to visit my classmates. I had been down there the year before on spring break with them, and remembered this shortcut we took. I think it was Hwy 26, just right next to Truth or Consequences off I-25 which went southwest and intersected with I-10. So I thought there had to be an even better shortcut. What I must have taken was Hwy 152 which led me up into all these mountains and fucking hair pin turns, then to Hwy 90. So much for being a shortcut. I had "burned" the two New Order Substance CD's to a casette tape. I remember having the sunroof open and finally being able to punch the gas coming down out of the mountains with Bizarre Love Triangle playing:
There was not a soul to be found on the highway, except strangely enough there was a yellow school bus I passed coming the opposite direction in the mountains with limo tinted windows which said "Special Operations" on it.

| I saw New Order open up for Robert Plant at the Montreux Jazz festival back in 1993. That was an awesome show. I was working there at the time and happened to have the day off. So me and my room mate went to see if there were any tickets left. About the last ones left were right up there in the front row. I couldn't hear for three days after! |
