I have this mother board:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131623

Its about 4 years old, still runs good.  I want to upgrade it to an i7 processor.

I was looking at this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-i7-2600S-SR00E-2-80GHz-to-3-80-8MB-LGA1155-Sandy-Bridge-Processor-CPU-/351713150884?hash=item51e3bcc7a4%3Ag%3AJdoAAOSwbwlXB9-n

Are they compatible with each other?

No, they are not compatible. That motherboard have an LGA1156 CPU socket and that CPU is an LGA 1155.
Look for an CPU that is the 1156 configuration.

Additionally, all manufacturers have a CPU compatibility list. Just look up your mobo on their site, it's usually not too far from drivers/BIOS/manuals.

1156 didnt' exactly stick around for a long time - anything you find new is going to be more expensive.

Rather than asking GD, perhaps you can go to your MB manufacturer's website, and download their CPU compatibility list? All board manufacturers who are worth a shit have one. If yours doesn't, you most likely bought the cheapest shit board that you could find at the time, and should just get a new one accordingly.

ETA: From Wikipedia, because you can't google for some reason.

The first sentence, even.

"LGA 1156, also known as Socket H or H1, is an Intel desktop CPU socket. LGA stands for land grid array. Its incompatible successor is LGA 1155."

With enough solder, anything is compatible.

If you're planning on a new hot shit cpu buy a new mobo and memory for a real improvement.
This is my plan once my current setup fails to keep up with what I need out of it.
I'm still running my overclocked i5 since the best i7 that would fit my motherboard wouldn't give me a discernible upgrade.
