I have this mother board:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131623 Its about 4 years old, still runs good. I want to upgrade it to an i7 processor. I was looking at this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-i7-2600S-SR00E-2-80GHz-to-3-80-8MB-LGA1155-Sandy-Bridge-Processor-CPU-/351713150884?hash=item51e3bcc7a4%3Ag%3AJdoAAOSwbwlXB9-n Are they compatible with each other? |

Rather than asking GD, perhaps you can go to your MB manufacturer's website, and download their CPU compatibility list? All board manufacturers who are worth a shit have one. If yours doesn't, you most likely bought the cheapest shit board that you could find at the time, and should just get a new one accordingly. ETA: From Wikipedia, because you can't google for some reason. The first sentence, even.
"LGA 1156, also known as Socket H or H1, is an Intel desktop CPU socket. LGA stands for land grid array. Its incompatible successor is LGA 1155." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1156 |

If you're planning on a new hot shit cpu buy a new mobo and memory for a real improvement.
This is my plan once my current setup fails to keep up with what I need out of it. I'm still running my overclocked i5 since the best i7 that would fit my motherboard wouldn't give me a discernible upgrade. |
