To roll back the odometer on a newish vehicle.  My cousin bought a 2008 impala from one of those no credit places and now is refusing to pay the bill because she says she found out they rolled the odometer back by 100k

A quick Google image search appears to show them digital, so I wouldn't think so, but don't know for sure either way.

Im sure it is... A place on Ebay will do about any odometer change. Looked into it when I was changing out the style of cluster on my 04 grand cherokee.

If it was on 02 I could do it all day long with a 50 dollar eprom reader.

And how does she know?

If she signed the papers, she'll likely be responsible for footing the bill. Expect repo or lien if she doesn't.

I didnt think it would be possible with digital gauges, but I thought i would ask the power of gd.

Still possible, still illegal.

The eprom that stores the mileage data is in the dash display (at least on 2005 Ford Taurus)
We had to replace the gauge cluster and the used replacement had 40K less miles.

If she is certain, she should contact the AG

Depends, even with digital dashes, some store it in the ECU and some store it in the dash.

If it couldn't be tricked with a scanner/diagnostics tool, you could drop $200 bucks on ebay for either one, swap it out, and have instant low miles.

I bought a used gauge cluster for a 2003 Durango off ebay for the added gauges it had over the stock one.  After replacement the new cluster show 17k miles my old cluster was much higher then that.

I suspect there is a true mileage value stored in the computer as well.

If it has a computer in it, its more than possible.

You swap out the right components from a wrecked parts car and you can also have the mileage the parts car had.

A car with 100k more miles on it will show it no matter how you cut it, I doubt anyone is that retarded.

She's lying her ass off, but when they come to take her shit, she shouldn't be surprised.

It's amazing what people will do to wreck their credit.

Not necessarily, my truck has 180k on it, it doesn't look like it has over 100k. And I'm talking under the hood, and under the chassis too.

The EEPROM that stores the mileage is sometimes in the instrument cluster. Swap the cluster and you have a lower mileage vehicle.
