How are you guys marking the fire and safe?  Are you taking them to some one and having

it engraved or doing it yourself somehow

I just do a dot of white pain for safe and a dot of red for fire.

I don't mark them.  Only thing I mark on my lowers is a serial number of sorts.

If I did I would just use my 1/4" stamps and mark an "S" and "F"

Is just a number required? No name?

There must be a thread somewhere on the requirements and process to stay
legal

Anyone want to point the way?

You don't need a serial

Some states require markings (usually if the gun is registered).  No federal laws require it, you can build it into a Title I configuration and keep it sterile if you like.

Mine were marked when I bought them.

I enjoy the fact that there are no markings whatsoever on my 80%.  Safe and Fire are kind of irrelevant; we all know where they are.  I think that was mainly done for grunts.  How many of us actually look at the rollmarks on the receiver when selecting safe or fire (or auto for those fortunate few).

I drew one with a sharpie, that wore off so I scratched it with an awl.

I will be doing the rest by milling a tiny dot and color-filling with white and red.

Thanks for the responses I thought it would be safer in case I had someone with me that

was new to the AR game
