I have a new job with a lot of down time so I've been enjoying this youtube channel. The ingenuity and inventiveness is amazing. They just released this video of a giant homemade P-38 and I'm amazed. The creator is a teenager! Gives me hope for the future.
From what I understand, one of the Flite Test guys is an Arfcommer and you'll occasionally see a BFL sticker on his builds. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/E642HNUaOtM |

They represent the "new" face of R/C. It is what it is. I blame the 3D'rs
I am impressed how slow the P-38 flies. Quoted:

Ah yes, the Buzzfeed of RC. I can't stand them. They represent the "new" face of R/C. It is what it is. I blame the 3D'rs
I am impressed how slow the P-38 flies. What am I missing? They did a nice story about innovative rc planes being designed and built by kids. Also mentioning how family oriented it's becoming. ..

Eh, I don't know. They design a lot of planes themselves then give the plans away. The build stuff out of cheap materials (dollar tree foam board) so people can get into the hobby cheap. I think it is a great channel. Peter, FoamAndTape on Arfcom, has some awesome designs like cargo planes that drop other planes and VTOL aircraft. Quoted:

Most of his planes have BFLs or Magpul logos on them. Another cool plane he built to drop paratroopers and other planes.

The downside is some of those people don't care what happens to the hobby and can do stupid things that make us all look bad. In many ways the lines between toys-foamies-"real" r/c airplanes have blurred. About 15 years ago the 3D movement started when someone put a big powerful motor and big control surfaces on a plane so they could hover it. They are the TapCo-AK owning godless heathens of the r/c world. They brought in a whole new demographic of pilots, a number of them did all sorts of stupid crap that made them the bane of any club's safety officer. ETA: This isn't the first, or last, epoch in the world of R/C. At one point anyone flying electric was a filthy California loving hippy. |
