| Recent pistol purchase and my background check was delayed, what's up with that? I have nothing on my record so I find this extremely annoying. my question is can I buy another gun while I already have a delayed background check for another? I feel like I cant.... but I thought I'd ask anyway. |

You can try and buy another gun while being delayed but you will probably get delayed again.
Since I moved to Texas I have been delayed on every purchase and I came from a state where I had a chl. I just recently picked up my suppressor and I did not get delayed then. Not sure if the ATF saw my name and said "he's good," or what. |
Tell us what exactly you're hiding. You seem shady. No guns for you
Honestly maybe your name or SS# or something is similar to that of a prohibited person. I've had the same thing happen in the past and I have a clean record as well. I'm sure you can go ahead and purchase another gun, it will require another record check and that one may be delayed as well. It's also possible that check might go through without a delay. You never know these days what's going on lol |

You may have the same name as some miscreant. |

Quoted: Can anyone confirm purchasing another firearm while already having a delayed background check for another? I think I changed my mind anyway hah I've talked to some people who said they went somewhere else and bought the same gun that same day after getting delayed when I did their background check. I wouldn't sweat it. It happens often when I was working behind a gun counter. |

I feel like I cant.... but I thought I'd ask anyway. I would not try it. Friend of mine never had a problem then one day got delayed. Sheriff came to his house that evening and arrested him. Turned out his ID was stolen and the thief was going around through several states writing bad checks and committing other crimes all using my friends I.D. He had to change his ID. New name, everything. |

I used to get delayed every time. Then one dealer said they changed some things to improve the system, and I haven't been delayed since then. I do have a common name. I had this same experience. in 2003 my first gun purchase really was instant, after that they passed the FOPA and suddenly I was delayed every time.. then lately I started not getting delayed. not sure why.. but whatevs, I have enough at home to keep me safe for the few days. |

I've been delayed only once and that was years ago and I have a perfect record. I bought a pistol decided I didn't like it and tried to trade it off less than a week after purchase. At exactly 1 week from buying the original pistol I got a call that I could come in an pickup the new pistol. I don't think the timing was a coincidence...
I know people here in GD will throw a fit for me saying this but if you provide your "optional" SS# it helps avoid you getting confused with someone else who does have a record. Worst part was the guy I was buying it from turned out to be the IT manager for a company I was interested in working for(working part time at a gun store). I was kind of buttering him up for a job then BAM delayed. Made me look like a criminal... |

Quoted: Ccl? Quoted: Quoted: I got my ccl just because of that. No background check plus you get to pack a weapon. Ccl? Concealed Carry License Some States call it a CHL (Concealed Handgun License) or LTC (Licence To Carry). In some States, individuals are exempt from a NICS check because it would be somewhat redundant seeing as they had to be verified to be able to get a license. |
| I was told if you have a very common name that it could get you delayed, only been delayed once way back when they first started doing checks, owner of the shop noticed me getting wrestless waiting to hear back and got back on the phone with them and helped push it through. |
