Carpet cleaners will be called eventually, I'm just not sure when, but what is the best method of getting smells out of carpet? for the sake of the source, just say dog waste or similar .

one of those carpet scrubber vac's, and an enzymatic cleaning solution like they sell near the machines at rug doctor, walmart, etc.

The only "real" way is to get rid of the carpet.

Get rid of dog, then replace carpet (make sure sub-floor isn't soaked.  If it is, clean and seal sub-floor).

White vinegar solution in a spray bottle works for some things, YMMV.

Get rid of all carpeting.

The shit is bad for your health.

Depends on how soiled the carpet is.

If your pup peed on one spot - then clean the area thoroughly and follow up with the white vinegar as was mentioned previously - it takes the smell away so the dog doesn't return to the spot.

It the carpet has been hit more than once or twice, I'd try a professional steam cleaning.  If that doesn't work, time for some new carpeting.

Thanks, getting rid of the dog isn't really an option. I will look into pricing out flooring, I've wanted to get rid of at least sections by the door. Scratches from the dogs is the one thing that has prevented us.

When I had dogs, I tiled my whole house.  Now I can sweep the whole floor in ten minutes with a Dirt Devil.

YOu can replace your pad with pet-proof hypo-allergenic pad.

It costs about 3x more than the carpet.

Ask your partner to clean herself better.

It's more of a future proof I guess. 3 dags, 2 kids, and tracking in leaves and other stuff inside is one of the perks that tile or wood floor has over carpet.
