They made entry by trying to pry all the windows in the alley open, but they couldn't as I had screwed them all shut, which in itself pisses me off as I open them in the summer time for air circulation (it's a collision repair shop). They then pried my new rear entrance door open (no deadbolt). Deadbolt + door jamb armor for a halfway secure door, unless you want to keep hunting over bait. |

Its a small quiet town. Kinda funny while on the phone with 911, I was giving her play by play. I got the impression she though I was there. After she said they have their hands up, I said do you want me to come down there now? She says 'Where are you at now?' I said 'home'. She says where is that at? I explained I lived in the country, she says how do you know whats going on? I explained about the email/photo notification, and at that point I switched over to a live feed from the security camera to the phone. She was like 'huh?'
When I turned in my statement this morning, I had also forwarded all 50+ notifications with the kids photos attached (it takes a snap shot every ten seconds). The officer I talked to knew of the previous break in, and asked about the security camera so I showed him my phone app and let him take a look at the live feed, he thought that was pretty cool and couldn't believe the camera was less than a hundred bucks. All the officers I talked to told me the camera just paid for itself. |

If you want a better quality cheap camera look the Hikvision cameras. They aren't wireless but it isn't that hard to run a wire in a shop. You can find them cheaper on eBay and import sites but you have to watch that they come with English language. They also have a new 4MP version. http://www.amazon.com/Hikvision-DS-2CD2032-I-Bullet-Security-Network/dp/B00G7GMEOG Here is one I have on my porch. The street is about 30 feet away. |

About three weeks ago between 6:30 PM Sunday night and 7 AM Monday morning my shop was broken in to and some cash stolen out of my office. I've owned this business for 23 years and this was the first time it had been broken in to. They pried open a window in the back facing the alley. That prompted me to get some sort of security camera to try out. Didn't have a lot of money to spend so I got on Amazon and searched, found an Amcrest Wifi camera less than a hundred bucks and bought it, had it installed up and running 4 days after the break in. It's kind of a cool camera, but I didn't know how well it'd work, so just wanted to play with it awhile before adding any more cameras or an NVR. As it is, I get motion detection emails after hours with and attached photo. Quite often I get a photo of nothing but an empty office, I suspect its headlights changing the lighting on the wall coming from the passing street. Last night I'd got in from Coyote hunting about 10:00pm and set in my chair and got on my laptop. Had about 4 notifications that were nothing but an empty office, delete as usual. I was actually browsing ARFCOM and got another notification, don't usually check them right away but this time I did and this is what I received. http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w60/rod37/20160321223452ch01-20160322-001529214_1_zpsz2nxx1dl.jpg At this point I was more excited than I was Coyote hunting. Dialed 911 to report the burglary in process and stayed on the line as the police arrived, which they did in about three minutes and had the front and back covered. The kids put their hands up apparently and the police kick in the front door to apprehend them as I was on my way to the shop. One of them is 18 and in Jail at the moment, the other is a Juvi and in the detention center. The older boy is my oldest boys sons age and had gone to school with him, but my son hadn't seen him since middle school, so suspect he dropped out. I'd never seen either before. They made entry by trying to pry all the windows in the alley open, but they couldn't as I had screwed them all shut, which in itself pisses me off as I open them in the summer time for air circulation (it's a collision repair shop). They then pried my new rear entrance door open (no deadbolt). I really hope they tie them to the first break-in so I can tack the stolen cash on to these two. Who know how long, if or when I'd ever see any compensation.... These kids are kinda lucky. The police had their gear from the backpack scattered across my shops floor. I pointed and said is that a toy pistol? I'm telling you, from a short distance you would never know. It was an airsoft pistol, plus they had a Taser and various pry bars. They're lucky they didn't pull that pistol and get shot, and around here, I know several people who carry, which also could have ended badly for them had to tried to bluff someone. I won't call these to thugs, although I think they are on the right path, these two are just punks. In my book a punk is someone who get in to trouble but when confronted, complies. Thugs don't comply. They had a Taser? What model. They arent cheap. Or did you mean a stun gun ? |

What is there to steal from a collision repair shop? Paint? Sanding discs? Nudie calendars? Those are not criminals.... just mentally challenged aspiring rapper wannabees. ![]() Three weeks ago I just happen to meet a guy (an old friend) down at the shop, he was dropping his daughter car off on a Sunday evening, he left me his 500.00 deductible in cash. Normally I take cash home and put it in my safe, but I threw this in the change bag in the drawer, and that's all that was stolen that same night. For awhile I had a bad feeling about this old friend of mine as no one knew about it, and no one was around the area when we met and I pulled the car in the shop. I was glad these two came back, made me feel better about this old friend. Whether they confess or not to the first break in, they pried on the windows (all three this time) in the exact same manner and with the same size pry bar as was used before. They were also wearing latex gloves, which was also worn the first time. I know this because a piece of latex glove was caught in the zipper of the money bag from the first incident. So I suspect that since they felt they hit the mother load the first time, they'd try a repeat. I've just been told of the older boy's dad has been that way all his life, so there goes my hope of the parents paying the restitution.... |

WTH are they after? ![]() Tools, mostly air tools because they think they are the most expensive. Little do thieves know, they are probably half shot and not as easy to sell. I worked in two repair shop before opening my own. Both of them were broken into, neither had an alarm until after the break-in. I installed an alarm the first day I opened for business. |
|
Nice man!!!! Glad you checked your phone and didn't fall into the "ignore alert, it's probably another false alarm" situation. Also kudos for not confusing the 911 operator in the beginning of the call by saying you were watching it on video. That got the quicker response out there since they figured you were physically there. Now throw the book at em, don't let the DA go soft on the charges. |

Good work man! If this is going to be a "thing" in your area, it is probably going to pay to go through and add some B/E deterrents on your doors. Not difficult and will keep the average moron like these two out. On a better note, how was the yote hunting? It wasn't as exciting as catching criminals. I got one to come in to about 40 yards, but needed him closer since I just had my shotgun last night. It was a full moon last night, bright out, I'm sure he knew something was up. |

Here's a little update.
The adult is still in jail, no court appearance yet. The Juvi is new to the community, moved here from Texas. His mom died when he was younger, his dad is in prison. He already has a record (multiple) in Texas, dating back to when he was 13, he'll be 18 in May. He's being released OR.... He is living with his grandmother and Aunt, not attending school because they aren't his legal guardian and can't enroll him. There is a chance they will offer a diversion. Are you kidding me? The adult has no known record, and has lived here quite some time. |
