| I own a 2002 Chevy Z71 LT, 5.3 V8 with 196,000 miles on it that is making a whining/humming sound when i reverse. It's happening more frequently and is louder. It only happens while in reverse and for a second or two. Some say its the rear differential or axel bearings. Anyone with experience and knowledge? Advice? |
| Pretty hard to guess without hearing it, but start with checking all fluid levels..mainly engine, tranny, power steering transfer case and differentials..T-cases are known for leaking all the fluid out and not making much noise as they destroy them selves.. but start with making sure all the fluids are good first... |

If you were talking less than 195K, I'd say check the muffler bearings, unfortunately on the 5.3 they go bad right around the 195K mark. If that's not the problem, I'd definitely check the headlight fluid pump located just behind the headlight fluid reservoir, those damn motors in the pump go bad quite often and could very well be the cause of the whining sound (burned out).
