I just can't take the incessant bickering and political correctness on this site anymore.  I am leaving and never coming back.  Don't cry for me ARFDC, for I truly won't miss any of you shitheads.
Just kidding.  I leave for basic tomorrow.  I hope the months of May and June are bright and warm for everybody.

Question everything they tell you. That shows the D.I.'s you are a thinking man and not a robot, probably make you an officer or something.

Remember the Lance Corporal motto while in basic training.

"Never first, never last, never volunteer."

Just remember...

Never run when you can walk...
Never walk when you can ride...
And never stand when you can sit...

The military is not for everybody, but it can be a very rewarding experience for those who can hack it.

Good luck.

Hey when they take you to get a dose of tear gas make sure the last guy slams the door extra hard as he goes in. When I went through this would occasionally dislodge an observation window letting gas seep in to the unprotected folks, you won't care at the time but later on you'll laugh your ass off at the memory of your chief and 1st class running for the exit and fighting each other out the door. Probably fixed by now but there was a theory amongst us temp duty pukes that it would never be fixed cause the chamber guys thought it was too much fun watching the PO's freak out.

EDITED TO ADD: Good luck man.

If your company commander starts to give you and shit you just tell them that you a have a good friend that's a Master Chief Petty Officer (me) and I'll give him what for.

The Navy?! What the hell are you gonna do with all that lame ass nuclear training out in the real world when you get out? Man your recruiter fucked you! Probably only earn 6 figures with a bullshit job like that.

All kidding aside. I have been in the aerospace bidness for a long time and they look for Navy experience in their critical systems employees. It is a good thing to have on your resume.

Unless asked, don't say anything for the first two days.  Observe and figure folks out.  Also, find out who the shitbags are going to be in your company (can't follow simple commands) and distance yourself.  Yes, you will all work as a team and will be punished as a team but you really don't want to keep close company with trouble... it rubs off.

Just a heads up... if you're going nuke you did very well on the ASVAB so there's a good chance they will make you yeoman in your company.  It's a good move, just make sure to keep your ducks in a row (always have the correct paperwork, esp. when heading out for chow.. they'll nail ya leaving the galley).  Basically, if you watch your CCs butt, he'll watch yours.  I ended up being awarded the Navy League Outstanding Recruit Award.

Just be aware that there will be some resentment from some other recruits if you do well.  Or maybe that was because my company was made up almost exclusively of malicious, insipid females.  [;D]

Good luck and enjoy!  [:D]
