Because vaporizing material tends to be noisy.

The laser isn't making the noise, the rust is. It screams out in pain as it dies.

Want.

Too bad it would be illegal somehow in the US.

Double illegal in New York and cancerous in California.

I would use that on my project car and get it rust free in just a few hours without the mess and possible damage that sandblasting would do to the sheet metal.

Burning off rust with laser.

No smoke at all.......

Yeah, sure.

ETA: No laser beam focusing required. Burns off rust at any distance with equal enthusiasm.

Seems like the focusing is already done by the time the beam is emitted.  Also seems there would be very little power variation given the distances the end of that gun wandered.

Looks like it's emitting plasma, not laser light.  That would make a lot more sense, think of it as a plasma cutter with lower power and better dispersal.

http://www.cleanlaser.de/wEnglish/funktionsprinzip/laser-verfahren.php?navanchor=2110030

Powerful, very short, rapid and moving laser pulses produce micro-plasma bursts, shockwaves and thermal pressure resulting in sublimation and ejection of the target material.

It's a laser. The plasma is generated when the laser heats the rust.

Yes, I read that.  My initial comment was only after viewing the video, before I sought out their website.
