Picked up a bottle of Laphroaig 10-year-old single malt yesterday, and had a little while watching TWD last night. Wow, very unique flavor. I could see how it could be off-putting to some, but I like it. People are always talking about different flavors in wines and spirits, and mostly I think they are BS, but if you can't taste the peat and smoke in this whisky, you're hopeless. any one else a fan? |

My bottle of Laphroaig is going to last a really long time. I don't see the pleasure in burping up what tastes like burnt bandaids 3 hour later. Nasty stuff. |

It's not bad had some at a bar that for some reason was better than the bottle I purchased for home consumption. Think there might be different versions in the same year.
My preference tends to be Sherry casks it seems. Macallan Glenfiddich Glenmorganie Highland Park Hmm was another I had around Christmas that was quite good....damn cant recall ah well. |

I know a lot of people that prefer the 10 year to any of the other Laphroaig offerings...including me. Definitely steer clear of the Laphroaig Select. It isn't my #1 Islay scotch (pronounced eye-la in case you're wondering), but it's hands-down my go-to...it's a lot more reasonably priced here compared to Lagavulin 16. Laphroaig's advertising campaign is hilarious and honest...they've totally embraced the love-it-or-hate-it attitudes, and they show the good and bad reactions to it. |

Haha, that's great. I love unintelligible Scottish accents. |

You might try Talisker or Arran. They are island/west highland region so they are peated, but it is very light. Nothing close to Islay region distilleries. Quoted:

I like my smokiness a bit lighter than Laphroaig. Highland Park for me. You might try Talisker or Arran. They are island/west highland region so they are peated, but it is very light. Nothing close to Islay region distilleries. I was just going to say Talisker is a solid Islay (ok not technically Islay, but close enough) with a more subtle peatiness. |

Laphroaig is for the good times that is for sure, the 18 is quiet nice. However the ten year old or quarter cask are also great. From an electricians view it smells like burned bakelight. Usually I drink it when barbecuing, or after a good day or for celebrating. Arderg or Lagavulin are equally good with the latter having the greatest body at least to me.
After bad days there is always cheap scotch or wild turkey, no need to waste great scotch on a bad day. |

My wife's family is from Islay so I am biased, but Laphroaig (or Leapfrog as we call it!), or Lagavullin, or Bruichladdich are pretty much all I drink single malt wise. i love a good scotch, but Laphroaig is one that isn't very high on my list. It is a touch too peaty for me. |

I don't like it as much as I like Lagavulin 16 but I can't justify buying Lagavulin so I have a bottle of Laphroaig 10 at the house. I like Talisker 10 better than Laphroaig too.
You and I should hang out.
Here in Virginia Lagavulin costs $100+...45 minutes north in DC/Maryland, I've seen it as low as $45 on sale. |

It was one of, if not their only, fuel source for fire. |
| I love peaty charcoal scotch. I normally only have one glass with just a dash of water to open it up when i get home after a tough day. The nice thing about those types of scotches is that its so pungent that you get the pleasure without having the urge to have like 4. |
