If you're driving so close to someone that they are able to do that, you're driving too close.
I get stuck behind people in the passing lane sometimes. You know what I do? I don't tailgate, and either wait for them to change lanes or I wait for an opening to pass them in the other lane. Losing one's patience and acting like an asshole never made anyone's life easier. |

No sympathy for the asshole tailgater, they freaked out. Maybe they were quickly moving to the shoulder when the brake lights came on, slammed the brakes and the rest is interwebz history.

Yes looks like he was trying to merge over with blinker on and had to slow down to do so. May have been the brake light and not blinker. Whatever the case in 90% of places its law to not tailgate and the tailgater overcorrected while not paying attention. |

from the video...... if you had both drivers in court, the only thing you could 100% prove was the suv driver was " following too closely"..... and was at fault for wrecking, just as he would have been at fault if he rear ended the vehicle in front of him for pretty much any reason. following too closely for conditions, not paying attention, take your pick.
the driver in front, all you can prove was he tapped his brakes..... why? because the car merging next to him made him nervous? because he was resting his foot on the brake? because he discovered he was speeding and wanted to slow back to the speed limit..... etc. im not saying the driver in front could not be sued...just saying USUALLY the guy in the rear is blamed, for following too closely. |

MI drives suck too....had one asshole cut me off the other day. Big lifted Chevy 2500, rode my ass for three miles. I put the turn signal to take an exit ramp, he proceeded to cut me off -kept going straight, gunned it as soon I started to merge and got in front of me, he then proceeded to slam on his brake- I could only do one thing, took the shoulder and passed the four cars in front of him- had I not done that I would have rear ended him. |

However tailgating is also illegal, and frankly I don't feel any sorrow for dumb bastards that tailgate and crash from being brake checked. 
The ends don't justify the means, but one is surely caused by the other, and I assure you the tailgating isn't caused by the brake check

But that was an obvious brake-check, which was provocative, dangerous, illegal, and dumb. If police would enforce the "keep right except to pass/slower traffic keep right" laws that are on the books in just about every state, there'd be substantially less left lane campers. Shit, half those fuckwits would have a blank stare on their faces why they were being ticketed.
The I-25 corridors both North and South of Denver both have shitbirds camping 60-65 in the left lane where the limit is 75. |
