I'm just getting into this, planning on casting 9, 40, 45, and .308 for blackout.
I'm now amassing my lead collection and have about 200 lbs of wheel weights to melt down this weekend. OP, do you do any powdercoating of your shineys? From what I understand that removes the lead fowling issue. |

I have only tinkered with it using a HF powdercoat gun and a little convection toaster over (convection is a MUST). They shoot good, and I like it in concept, but it adds some time. So I don't do it for pistols, and only for fat rifle calibers (long skinny bullets are hard to stand up on a tray and get into the oven). It wouldn't surprise me though if someone's found a clever and easier way to do it en-mass. I just haven't looked into it in a year. So I tumble lube when I can (bullets that don't need a GC or need to be sized), otherwise, lubrisize. Most of what i cast is pistols with 50/50 wheelweights. For rifles or magnum pistol, I use more like a 2:1 wheelweight alloy and drop them in water. |
