I was up in the hills the other day and found a bunch of fired 30 cal. crimp nosed blanks and links from a belt fed. I have found 50 cal. brass and links before too.I know nothing about belt fed weapons and it got me wondering, do they ever re use the links?

I don't know who you mean by "they" but they (links) are certainly reuseable.

I reuse the links in my .308 M1919A6.

We just scooped all the links up and dumped them into an ammo crate. Sometimes we would dump brass and links together.

I have never, while in the Army, linked any substantial amount on 556 or 762 or 50 though.

It's actually a good question! If they used a big magnet they could easily separate and re-use the links.

But knowing the Govt., they likely separate and melt them down and make new links.

I am supposing at least the 50 cal. brass was left by the .mil. The guy I now that shoots 50 has a bolt gun and wouldn't leave the brass.

We would re-use links when reloading the .50 Cal on the Kiowa. Open the top, have the pilot run the bolt to the rear, catch the round and empty link that falls out, run the linked ammo back up to the box, attach new ammo to old with the loose link, load ammo into box, run ammo back down to gun.

There are companies dedicated to "reusing" links.
