I've got a shareware software package that expired after the 30 day trial period.

I uninstalled it and re-installed hoping to steal an extra 30 days.

Didn't work, it stored a file somewhere on my computer so that it can tell that i've used up the original 30 day trial.

Any advice on finding this bit of stored information and deleting it?

I've searched for the software name in the registry and deleted every reference I could find.

I've search through every file on my hard drive for the name of the software, and the name of the manufacturer (using the win XP search function), and no dice it still can tell that it's been used before.

Any hot tips on how to figure this one out?

you need to use regedit and delete all references to it in the registry.

If you have never been in the registry before, I don't recommend messing with it, one wrong move and your screwed. You will have to reinstall your OS and programs

good luck

Would help, if you could be more specific. What's the name and exact version of said shareware package? IM me.

There are a number of automatic registry cleaner programs that will evaluate every registry entry and program in your computer and kick out any registry keys that point to sofware that's no longer installed.

So you uninstall the software,  run the program, and reinstall it.   Should work.

There might also be a crack for the program out there somewhere, too.

But being realistic, if you like the program enough to want to reinstall it,  then maybe you really SHOULD consider BUYING it.  Solves all
your problems.

If all else fails, try the ultimate cheese method and set the date on your computer back 30 days.  It has worked before for me.

Be aware, setting your date back doesn't always work.   I had a program once that detected the date change and shut down IMMEDIATELY.  Reinstalling it did no good until the registry was cleaned.
