Would you recommend taking a cruise?
My parents do it and they seem to like it. Though, last time, they got sick mid way through and took a flight home from Paris. |

Here is why I'd consider it,
On normal vacations, we always seem stressed to cram in a bunch of stuff. Visits with friends and family, etc. Seems like it would (could) be more relaximg. Though, one time we vacationed in Jamaica at sandals and didn't like being "trapped" on the resort. So I'm not sure. |

Cruises can be tons of fun, but you have to know how to avoid getting nickel and dimed to death...Although it is techincally against the rules, a couple I met on a cruise told me that they saved lots of money by bringing their own booze on board. That way, they would order a coke (free) and put their own rum into it when at poolside. They would also bring one suitcase along that was full of the goodies they would eat, and booze, and as they acquired souvineers, they would full the case back up with those. The trips on land can cost you a small fortune, so if you do research before hand, you can find your own land activities and save a bundle. I found the days at sea the most relaxing...
Most cruise lines dock early in the morning, and you have to be back aboard by around 5 PM...this is a clever way to force you to buy cruise ship stuff, and gamble in their casino all night long.. The food on cruises can be really fantastic, and overall, you can do quite well. If you figure meals, and hotel room would cost on land VS the cruise ship, you can do pretty well on board if you avoid paying $7.50 for a rum and coke....or $5.00 for a single shot of espresso. And buy the insurance in case anything goes wrong like noro virus..read the insurance carefully as there are often exclusions that make the insurance pretty well worthless. You want insurance that pays you back if you can't go, or if you get sick on the ship and need to go home. |

| I went on my first, and last one 2 years ago..............I went into it optimistic, and decided to just try and enjoy it. I didn't care for it at all. Being confined to the boat, running out of things to do( I don't drink much) and the food wasn't that good. And especially enjoyable was getting the once over from Customs when we docked in San Juan..........I know some people like them, and that's ok. I wont waste my money on one ever again |

There is only one way to do a cruise: http://www.silversea.com Wife and I have been on 2 now. One in the Caribbean and one in the Med. Small boats, very classy, generally no kids and all inclusive. |

Since you are a team member you may want to post this in the "Travel" forum.
Your going to get a lot of parrots here on GD who have never had any cruise experience. I have been on a few and enjoyed them - sort of like checking into a hotel once and the hotel moves to the different places. Lots to do on the ship between stops. It's not for everyone. |

we'd much rather go to Sandals than back on another cruise.
You know you can go to any Sandals resort in Jamaica. They offer scheduled buses to get you there. When we went to St. Lucia, we spent each day at a different Sandals property soaking it all in. We enjoyed it. |

If you're going to do it go with Regent Seven Seas. 300 people on the boat, all inclusive, I think about 6 kids, and the staff is insanely awesome Regent Seven Seas We did a 10 day of the Med. They flew us to Barcelona and we sailed from there to Istanbul with 8 stops in the middle. I'll never get on another cruise line. |

go on an Alaska cruise. you won't need to fly and the weather will be nice in the summer. They usually bring the nicer boats for the summer cruises That could be cool if you are gonna do it hop on a princess boat. the food is better IMHO than the rest. |

| I like cruises, lazy way to travel and see different places Floating hotel that takes you from place to place. Quality of passengers, food, and service, vary by cruise line and ships within that cruise line. Doing some research and asking around is key to finding the right fit. |

Just fly to the island of your choice and chill at an all inclusive. fuck the disease boats. Did that in Jamaica and it was 'alright '. Don't go to some huge place like Sandals, go to a 'boutique' all-inclusive. |
