And may require an even stoopider answer. Gd, its time to exercise the brain for the night before work.
So I was thinking. In English, we dont have genders for inanimate objects, while we do in russian, German, Spanish etc--they have them. But in English an item is usually called an "it" But then why do people say about a gun or a ship "she is beautiful", or,say about a car "she is clean"...trying to think about objects where people would say "he" instead of it funny, in russian car and gun are also classified as "female" gender. the moar you know, rite? |
| all I am saying is why are people applying gender to something they are not supposed to grammatically apply to?it goes against the laws of this language but it happens anyway...any GD english majors chime in? I know we have some, they could crawl out of woodwork |

Because we tend to admire and desire things like cars, guns, etc that have aesthetic appeal in a similar way that we admire and desire women. Yep.Because calling a gun or car or boat "he" would be totally gay. Just like those other languages you mentioned. |

We only attribute gender to inanimate objects we wish we could fuck. The USS Wisconsin? I'd love to throw a dog down her pipe if I could. A 69' Mach 1 Mustang? I'd give that bitch the best 11 seconds of her life if I didn't think it'd leave me mutilated. A 1986 Toyota Tercel? That's a fucking it.
Why is Russia the "motherland" and Germany is the "fatherland?" And does that make Poland "kinderland?" Gender of inanimate objects is the most annoying thing about languages other than English. Nonsensical. |
