| I am going to be adding some recessed lights to "my" room in the house. I prefer daylight over warm white and want something dimmable. It is open attic with insulation over the room so access is semi easy and space is available. Room size is large guestroom. I think I'm going to want 4 or possibly 5 lights. Rather have more light than I need available than not enough. Recommendations? Gottanbe something better out there than the meh stuff at home depot and Lowes. |

What sort of lighting is in the room now, and are you merely adding to it, or are you totally replacing it,
Ceiling fan ? ? ? With a light kit ? ? ? Nearly every habitable room in Texas can benefit from a ceiling fan. With a center mounted ceiling fan/light kit, four additional 4" cans, on a separate dimmable switch, should be sufficient. Most of the time, however, you can buy 5" cans for nearly the same price as the 4" ones and have the ability to go with a larger wattage bulb. |

If you have a ceiling fan, keep can lights at least 6' from fan if ceilings are 8-9'. Unless you use MR-16 lamps with 10-20° beam spread.
Use IC rated, retrofit cans. Halo, Juno, or whatever brand that has a trim you like. With even cheap trims you can Krylon whatever color you want. I like the 5K Kelvin color lights as well. Find a point of reference in ceiling, like duct work, existing light box. Draw out how far apart/spacing you want of lights. Go in attic, and BEFORE you cut holes measure so you miss joists. Run speaker wires for in ceiling speakers and other stuff while your doing it. A LED rated dimmer and LED lamps will look nice. You can even get a IR/RF controlled dimmer, program it to remote, create a macro. One button push, TV comes on, Amp comes on, lights dimm, etc. |
| Only light now is a fan with light kit. But it uses those retarded candelabra style bulbs and throws really yellow light, and only 2 of those. Makes my head hurt to build and paint models or draw in that room. I hate the fan so it is getting replaced too. Already planning on running wires while before i paint since it looks like i am going to add an outlet up on the wall tho get rid of hanging tv and hdmi cables. Joists have already been marked so i know where they are. |

Dude, if you're a grown ass man, every room is your room. have you ever been married? No shit. I'm lucky to have one or two rooms I've kept off limits from her shenanigans. Whatever keeps her busy I guess, I just know I have a lot more work if we ever sell this place and want to move. Of course she says she's "added value" and made it "look so much better" |
