My kitchen has white cabinets. The veneer on many of the doors and drawers is starting to delaminate (if you run your finger against it while opening or closing some cabinets it pulls up)....

I've been thinking about getting the cabinets refaced (Mrs. Undefined hates the white cabinets). Have any of you done this before? How pricey was it? Did it turn out well? What advice do you have?

Note: I don't have a link to wife pics handy, but I'm sure you can find the ones I've posted before if you're really into that.

I've seen a kitchen that was "refreshed" that way. The guy who refaced the cabinets did such a nice job that they looked like new cabinets.

Not sure what it would cost, but it's much cheaper than replacing them all.

If they are all wood and none of that cardboard crap, then do it.  All it takes is new doors, hardware and paint.

It can certainly be done.  I think they just order new doors and apply a matching veneer to the frames and boxes.   For me, it would be a question of how long I was going to be in the house.

ETA....A buddy of mine is a contractor.  I can ask him about it.

The customer was thrilled with how nice the cabinets looked.
I did other work for them, before and after, so I knew them quite well.
I was a carpenter, and remodeled kitchens.
I can spot flaws easily.
I was shocked at how nice the refacing job turned out.

Never that, but a local fleamarket has wood cabinet doors cheap.

Yes as in the boxes of the cabines are all solid wood? It may be cheaper to have new cabinets installed. To add one base and move a section over, reface with white shaker cabinet doors with soft close hinges ran 11K, but all new cabinets with soft close and a new pantry it was 9k and thats also solid wood and more cabinets. The diffrence in price paid for new granite counter top and sink "59sqft" installed.

ETA: you could always look for a warehouse deal on amazon for cabinets

I'll check if they are solid wood tonight. I believe they are, but this house always finds ways to unpleasantly surprise me.

I guess I should price out new cabinets as well. Off the top of my head, I've got 21 cabinet doors and 11 drawers. Give or take.
