I have a chance to pick up a Snap On KRA5311 double-bank 11 drawer box, but am having a hard time narrowing down a price.  I know they are around $3300 new from Snap On, but used boxes are a little harder to assess.  I just need to get it at a price where if I decide I don't like it, I won't lose any money.  Any ideas?

used I wouldn't go over 1500.

I have a big MAC box but if I was to buy a box today I'd buy the 72" from harbor freight. Great box and extra heavy construction.

That's the thing, the HF boxes have made it very hard to spend a lot of money on other boxes (especially Snap On).  I bought one of their 48" boxes, basically the same size as this one I believe, and have been 100% satisfied....and only spent $250.  That being said, I might be interested at $1000...think it would be an easy sell at that price?

I think the seller would balk. But if you got it and you just want the snap on name go for it.

These days I use my tool cart for 95% of what I do and rarely open a drawer on my tool box except for the rare oddball tool need.

$87 of course

It would have to be in as new condition before I would go 50%.

Depending on age and condition, $1000-1500.

I would guess its worth at least 50% of new unless its beat up.. Snap-on boxes hold their value because they are the best, also in the past if you traded in a snap-on box in good shape for another they gave you full current price for the trade in(what new price is) not sure if they still do..  at least they always have for me......... my last box close to 20 years ago...

Damn!

I have buddies that are bus mechanics that have similar boxes.
Super jealous until I remember what they have invested in them.

They probably have more in them then I have in my box. And I can drive my box to and from work everyday.

The market for a Snap-On box is a shrinking one these days, especially in sizes that el-cheapo boxes come in. So, a small Snap-On box is not going to be easy to sell, until the right buyer comes along.

This.

Had to look up that model number and it looks like the cheaper end box. I'd look at the KRL line over the KRA.
Tool boxes are like safes, you want bigger than you expect to need unless it for a home garage box.

KRA is the cheaper line. When they go on sale, you can get one under 2K new. I have sold KRL double banks under 3K on sale. I'm a former dealer.

I don't mind putting a little into the box, but not more than what I can get back out of it if I decide to sell...of course, who knows what that magic number is exactly.

This, you buy a KRA because of the name. KRL is what you seek.

Check craigslist for pricing on what people are asking. Notice I said asking.

Pull the brand tags off of it and what is it really worth then?
Lista makes some of the best quality boxes I've used but I have no problem spending half the money for HF mid grade boxes as their quality has improved.
I'll invest in tools more so than a box of drawers.
