Grabbed a surefire off amazon, with the upgraded 650lumen LED drop in kit.
So the top doesn't screw on all the way. I mean it's solid, just not as it was before. Is this ok/normal?

Yep.

I had to do that with a Redilast 3 mode XM-L2 U2 P60 I added.

OP might as well wrap the new P60 with copper/aluminum foil to aid in heat sinking the new, hotter emitter.

Surefire Z59 is what you want for the tailcap, but I can't find it in stock any place.  That and a KX4D on a 6P ride in a DD mount on my social occasion piece.

Just remember, for those running a true 1000LM (doubtful) XM-L2 P60 drop-in, you need to not run CR123As in the light and opt for a li-ion, either an 18650, or 17670/16650 cell.

CR123As are only rated for 1.5A draws and an XM-L2 at 1053LM pulls 3A.

You don't want to Glock your light and possibly lose a booger hook.
