I was in a wreck earlier this year. After the car was fixed, I noticed one of the AC lines going into the compressor was bent about 10-15 degrees (estimate). They didn't change it (yes I know I should have made them replace it) but anyway the AC still works great in the summer but the compressor has had a whirring noise ever since. It is more pronounced when it is very hot outside, and the whirring only happens with the compressor on (the clutch bearing has been examined and excluded from possibilities).

Will a slightly restricted suction line cause the compressor to whir when it runs?

I'm sure a restriction wouldn't be liked by any pump real quick.

A smooth bend 10-15° is of no consequence.  A kink of the same angle is still quite small as far as flow reduction area, well within the margins of operation as far as flow is concerned.

Do you have pictures?

*edit - it is possible that the bending dislodged some internal scale that the pump would not like at all.  I would be more concerned with that sort of damage.

I don't have pics available at the moment. But I did use the AC all summer with no cooling issues, just the noise. I would have thought it would have gernaded by now.

Just a thought, new compressors aren't very expensive, but if they grenade you'll probably have to replace and/or flush the whole system.
