Don't even think twice. BUY ONE!
The immediate predecessor to the FAL, the FN49 shares many of the same fine qualities - Belgian craftsmanship, a gas operated recoil system that is easily adjusted, nice battle sights, and low recoil. They are virtually identical in length and weight to the M1 Garand, but you can choose your choice of calibers. I'm fortunate enough to own a Luxembourg model in .30-06, an unissued Egyptian in 8mm (still packed in grease!) and two of the Argentine Navy models converted to .308: 
They are superb battle rifles and a joy to shoot. |
