Ok..I know this has been done before but I wasn't paying attention. I recently got turned on to a Romeo y Juliet and I have to say it was the smoothest cigar I have ever had...And, it was only $5... Now, I visited a local liquor store that has cigars other than the dime-store variety. I live in a small town and don't get to the big city too often to go to a real smoke shop.. Anyway, I got a cigar..It cost me $8 and it was a Cameroon C.A.O...That thing had some bite to it..Not smooth at all...So I went back to where I got the R&J and they were out so I got some Hoyo de Monterey's...Any good? They were about $5/ea as well...I got 4 of em so they better be good! What do you guys smoke? I need something between dime store and cigar bar ($3-$5ea) Thanks |

Communist: Montecristo #2 Non-Communist: Ashton VSG (full bodied) or AVO #7 (very mild) sometimes La Gloria Cubana Torpedo Hmmm...I guess it all depends on the mood. I like talking about cigars almost as much as I do guns and trucks and jets. Free Advice...get a cheap humidor and shop online at JRcigars.com or holts.com |

Communist Cigar was my attempt at saying Cuban Cigar in a sarcastic method. Being 1 hour from Canada I get to enjoy them legally on ski trips....damn things are expensive though. Most cigars you can buy in this country are from Central America. Buying online and in quantity gives you the opportunity to explore some brands...I would buy samplers of 4-5 different cigars at a time and store them in a small humidor. |

I heard that if you have a TRUE Cuban cigar and some Tennessee sipping whiskey, you have about 3 more steps to go to get to heaven... (A little lovin from the little woman later brings you another step closer..) [:)] Never had a true cuban...Maybe someday if GWB lifts the embargo.. |

Okay...realistically most cuban cigars are overated. Fidel Castro has destroyed the industry by making it a government controlled enterprise. Most of the best cigar makers left cuba leaving only the name of their cigars behind. Finally...the last decade has had severe weather trends in cuba which has damaged many many crops. Cuban cigars are made with cuban tobacco ONLY...they don't blend...what you get is a very unique taste depending on who rolled it. Usually Cuban cigars are Full Bodied... I actually enjoy the Dominican cigars more because they have developed the art of blending tobaccos from many regions. What we benefit from is that we can get GREAT cigars from 5 to 20 bucks...with a few boutique cigars fetching big prices. What Cuba has to offer is nostalgia and some good cigars and a few GREAT cigars from prices that start around 35 per stick. My vote is for spending 100-200 bucks for a BOX of 25 of my favorites rather than the same amount of money for 4 cigars. IMHO the best hard liquor with cigars is a good single barrel rum...though I like a good stout beer with my smokes. |

I personally like the Romeo y Julietta's, they are really mild and smooth, which is what my palette (sp?) prefers... YMMV AVOs seem to be pretty smooth and mild also... another of my favorites.... I have also had some generic cigars that were aged in my humidor for 6 months that were great... mild, smooth and were GREAT smokes, esp for the price paid... unfortunately they were also inconsistent...
