My daughter is a nurse in a local hospital. Today she told me some stories about dopers admitted to the hospital.
Patients start dealing drugs from their hospital rooms until they're shut down. They have patients come from other rooms to buy dope. Once their dealing is discovered nurses stir their meds up in applesauce to prevent them holding a pill in their mouth until the nurse leaves. Patients remove the IV from their arm to stick it in another friend or family members arm. A visitor brought a shot of heroin into the hospital for his friend. The friend injected the heroin into his pic line. DRT. I'm sure some of you guys are very familiar with this behavior. It's all new to me. Damn. |
| We had a doper get a massive infection and had to have a PICC line placed. This is basically a long term (a few weeks) IV, typically for IV antibiotics. As soon as it was placed, he took off from the hospital. He was found one state away and was positive for pretty much every drug you can think of. |

I must be out of touch but I thought "dopers" smoked pot? The ones here claim "dope" refers to something else. They are easy to spot though because they post the absolutely inane "pot needles" into thread after thread, even when it has nothing to do with the topic. |

If we stopped paying for it and let hospitals refuse to treat indigent patients the problem would go away. At night and on the weekend ER in the city I used to work in was 90% people with self-inflicted problems and no ability to pay. They made up the vast majority of unrecovered expenses for the hospital. |

I unfortunately have to work with a few.
I distance myself from them as much as I can. I hate being in proximity of anybody that thinks it's ok to get high whenever they want because it does not effect their job. It does. Don't give a shit what you do at home, just don't bring it to work. |

People stick liquor up their ass and dab weed into their eyes now. These kids are messed up. Quoted:

Back in the early 2000's people used to plug ecstasy. As in put the pill in their butt. |

My wife is an EMT and has seen numerous come in feigning some illness to get an IV port just to run out the door so they have a nice place to shoot up.
Then there was the family that colored their baby black with marker so it wasn't so white and surprise it was toxic.

You should see how much fun it is trying to anesthetize them and provide any kind of meaningful pain relief to them after surgery.
The humanitarian side of me will always pity them, but the logical and analytical side of me knows they brought all their misery onto themselves. Our area is largely plagued by meth users, but Rx abuse is nearly as bad as meth. |

If drugs are such a bad thing, then why do LEO's allow informants to sell it for profit? I doubt it works that way. Nice try. Except when exactly that happens. No, it's not. How in the hell did you come up with that?
