[shock]

Just finished my state and federal income taxes. TurboTax has been printing forms out from my printer for twenty minutes now [rolleyes].

I don't envy you.  Mine are still simple enough that they don't take more than 3 pages.

My tax guy is nicknamed "Count Taxula" , he's the IRS worse nightmare. Two years ago I even wrote off some handguns as "Protection"...I own a swimming pool service. I asked him if my company can buy some AR's, you know to guard my chlorine stockpile....he said yep it's a write off for 2003!

Cool Wolfpack! Sounds like you might need an extra guard for that chlorine stockpile - let me know if you have any openings in late Spring/early Summer! [:D]

Running a web site as a side business is great.  Able to write off my whole cable modem bill and computer purchases, get deductions for my home office, probably some other stuff that I can't recall at the moment as I had my taxes done in Feb.

That's me.  I did my taxes last night, and I'm getting back every penny I paid in federal taxes plus more thanks to the earned income tax credit.  I had enough medical expenses so I could itemize, and that wiped-out most of my income.  Also, I didn't have to pay a penny of state tax.

To be honest, I feel guilty about not having to pay.  Everyone should have to pay something.z

Wasn't the income tax supposed to be temporary and not exceed  2%?  I don't have my history books next to me right now (Can't lug that library to work).

So when do we use the 2nd for what it was intended and shoot the bastards stealing 40% of our labor each year?

Temporary?  I don't think Congress considers something "temporary" when they make a Constitutional Amendment on the subject.  Reference the 16th Amendment.

I thought GWB cut our taxes.  But, that not what my checkbook says. [pissed]   I did get some state $$$ back, but I think the legislature is going to raise the income tax.  It is the only thing they ever get around to passing.

California taxes half of my federal income. I'm not a legal resident of the state - here on military orders so I have to pay taxes to my state of residence (Illinois). But my wife isn't here on military orders so they tax half of my pay - her community property.

I asked if she was working would they tax half or all of it - my half of the community property being tax exempt because of orders. Nope, they'd tax all of it.

It works out that my second job pays enough to cover the state and federal taxes so that I get the equalivant of my entire first check. So working two jobs - one for me, one for the govenment ... to pay for people with no jobs. Gotta love the system.

Wankers.[50]

No kidding - that's why from a financial persepctive it made no difference to me if Gore or Bush won.

I'm not rich enough to benefit from any of Bush's/republican tax goodies and benefits.

I'm not poor enought to benefit from any of Gore's/democrat tax goodies and benefits.

You have got to be f@*%ing kidding me.

I'm thinking that since the 4th I.D. wasn't needed in Iraq, maybe we should send them in to liberate Kalifornistan.

I will never live in that God-forsaken hell-hole.

Taxing income is counterproductive, it stifles economic growth, it punishes individual achievement, it's an elaborate 'wealth redistribution scheme' and is just plain immoral.

It's also one of the major pillars of Marxism layed out in "The Communist Manifesto".

[red]Repeal the 16th Amendment!!![/red][soapbox]

Replace it with a National Sales Tax - tax money SPENT - not money EARNED!!

Oh and BTW, I got a refund this year so I basically gave the US Gov't a 0% interest loan for the past year. (but I'm STILL overtaxed!) [:(!]

Preach it, brother! Income Tax = Communism.

I'm a single guy who owns a crappy little house in a crappy city. I paid the fedgov over $20,000 in taxes last year.

Got $1,700 back. Gee, thanks!

Oh, and here's a neat little nugget I found out about after the fact.

All of those rich tax breaks that Reagan and Bush I put in place have a cap on them. This means that if you earned over X in the tax year, you are not able to get many if any of those deductions.

Now, before you get all over me for bitching and moaning about how much I am having to pay, just remember, I may charge up all of my credit cards to the max, cash out and just fade away. No more 6 figure tax bills!

I mean, I made the money, why can't I keep it? Why am I penalized with a higher tax bill because I am successful? I paid the price for starting this business, took the risks, endured the down times and now am turning a healthy profit, why can't I keep more of what I make?
