Love me some Skyline Goldstar a back up ![]()
I dont even bother getting in arguments anymore about Cincy Chili vs other chili with non natives. I tried making my first home batch a few weeks ago, surprisingly easy to cook. The recipe was no where near as tasty as Skyline. |

You damned heathens don't know good canned chili.... THIS is good stuff! http://scene7.targetimg1.com/is/image/Target/13653322?wid=480&hei=480 Apples and oranges. That stuff is meant to be eaten in a bowl. Cincinnati style chili is a topping. |
|
I like it, it does have clove, cinnamon, brown sugar and some other oddball things to find in chili.
If you have a Harris Teeter nearby some them have the frozen version. Don't get the one that has the spaghetti with it, I got a couple of them and the spaghetti was mushy. |

Is it worth having some around? If you're looking for Cinci style chili aka meaty hotdog/spaghetti topping, it's good stuff. If you're looking for canned version of what you'd expect from a Tejas chili parlor, look elsewhere. Mmmmm, loves me some Skyline coneys. |

That seasoning packet it actually pretty darn good. We buy it to make hot dog topping and it is great as an occasional change from the normal spaghetti sauce. |

We have a seasoning powder brand here called Cincinnati Recipe for making Cincinatti style "chili". All you need to add is water and ground beef then serve over spaghetti with kidney beans, raw onions, freshly shreaded sharp cheddar cheese. It ain't really chili but it ain't bad either. I will send you a few packs if you like.
The line of cultural demarcation between N. Kentucky and the Bluegrass (central Kentucky) is the Skyline Chili in Dry Ridge, KY where the Southern most Skyline is located. We drove those Yanks out of Lexington about 10 years ago. |

It is bad spaghetti sauce, which is put on bad spagetti. I'm by no means a chili snob, but skyline/Cincinnati style chili just plain sucks. You have to be from a miserable place like Ohio for Cincinnati Chili to be seen as something good and worthy of praise.
My .02c of course. Girls I dated while in college in Indiana did not care for my Texan opinion on the matter, either

Fuck the haters, I love love love me some skyline chili. I like it sans noodles, with a heap of finely shredded yellow cheddar and a handful of oyster crackers! Good eats. Big mug of black coffee, just the lunch to keep you 'warm' on a chilly late fall afternoon. |

Hormel NO beans on a Koegel dog with diced onion, mustard, and shredded cheddar = WIN!!!! ETA: we have Skyline here, but Hormel is MO BETTER. James Hormel |

He needed a native to show him how to eat it. He's doing it wrong. |

As a former chef and Ohio native, I know 'Cincinnati' chili is very different than what most consider chili to be. Both are equally good, in their own right. I believe Cinci chili is considered a Greek recipe, originally.
Serve me a 3 way and a couple coneys any day of the week and I will smile from elbow to elbow |
