| I was on www.urban-armory.com today and on their machine gun listing they have a transferable m-249 for only 18,500. Seems extremly low considering dealer samples cost about 69,000. Anyone seen this around? I though that none saw's were transferable. Mabye on of you guys knows. |

That is a 'MAC-249', hence the price... Basically, you take a transferrable MAC lower, and adapt a better MG to accept the MAC lower as it's fire-control mechanisim... The result is a (M249, RPD, or similar) with a MAC sticking out the bottom... You can see the MAC better in the RPD pic: This technically could be done with M16 lowers (it has, sort of, with the Shrike system) too, but MACs are cheaper than M16s... A 'creative' system, and a nice run-around the 86 ban (we're not exactly hurting for MACs to cannibalize)... Especially if the donor-gun is an AR-style weapon where all the accuracy is in the upper, and the lower is just a hammer/safety/selector assembly... |

Quoted: i don't think it was a SAW. IIRC, there are only about 7 transferables in the U.S. It might as well be, except for the fat right-angle pistol grip that derives from the MAC... Since all that the MAC does is provide a fire-control group (the upper portion is 'original FN') the gun probably retains the original accuracy of the M249... I'd guess you can't feed it AR mags (i.e. BF only), though... |

They have adapted both the RPK and the SAW to be used with the MAC lowers. What you are seeing is a SAW with a MAC lower. Edited to add: They had a complete write up about it on subguns, and on their site. I can't find it now, but they took RPK's and SAW's and converted them to work with the MAC 11's. If you look really close at that picture you can tell it is a MAC frame. The trigger houseing and grip is all wrong for a factory SAW. It is obviously a MAC lower. TS |
