I can fucking assure you all that Obama will not go to war with Russia over dead U.S. troops if they're killed by the Rooskies.

If he gave two shits about U.S. troops, they wouldn't be in this position to begin with.  His abandonment of Iraq made that quite clear.

1999 Blunt was a British Army Captain in charge of a reconnaissance unit. He was given orders to seize an airfield that was already occupied by Russians. He ended up getting into it with NATO command (Clark) who insisted there were no Russians there and to seize it by force. He basically said "fuck, it court martial me" and probably prevented a pretty ugly international incident. Pretty admirable guy to be honest, despite that song...

A declaration is not needed when the country you're invading has zero ability to stop you.  At least that is how our government seems to think now.

Which actually makes Iran's nuclear ambitions seem pretty reasonable.

When a sovereign nation loses controul of its territory to people that are essentially hostis humani generis, or at the least a threat to or enemy of a country, it is not really an act of war requiring a declaration of the same to send forces into that territory.  No declaration of war is needed to fight a non-state actor.

That's the kind of thing I think points back to society's wider lessons from the first world war.

In 1914, Capt. Blount would've swallowed hard, got his pluck up, and charged the rooskies.  If he hadn't, he'd have been considered a coward by his officers, his men, and the people that wrote that article.  The perfectly sensible reasons for his refusal would've been irrelevant.  He Had An Order.  Now we expect this kind of thing and celebrate it.

Not saying it's bad mind you, just a perfect example of the shift in perception that started on the fields of the western front a century ago.

I guess with officers like Blunt who needs Generals or Colonels, Blunt can decide when to attack or not, that's is not so good. Is possible that Blunt was right at that moment, but just imagine in a shooting war low ranking officers questioning top commander's orders. I don't like a unified command, let American officers command American forces.

It's coming. The Saudis are already waging economic war on the Russians. They want their puppet Obama to put the US in a ground war with Russia and Iran.
It all plays into what the Muslim Brotherhood wants to happen.

When there are forces in that same theater of war that we are actively opposing that are actually from that sovereign country then those lines sure get blurry as fuck.

What happens when our guys just happen upon Syrian forces? Are we going to commit an act of war against a sovereign country with out congressional approval?

That whole country is a cluster fuck we would be best to stay the fuck out of.
