Corryvrecken is one of my favorite Scotches. I was at Corryvrecken in August. It's a neat place. |

I have a delightful bottle of a 17 year old Laphroaig cask #30 that I brought home from our tour of the Laphroaig distillery. It's not available in the States. Lagavulin 16 is in my top 5 US favorites. Although they did offer an 18 year old Bodega sherry at the distillery that I like more. I featured Corryvreckan in one of my Scotch tastings about two years ago. My wife and I always wanted to visit the whirlpool, so we booked a tour boat to take us to it. We went out at high tide. The waters were frightening. The captain took us next to where the whirlpool forms, but not into it. Ships have been lost there. The old maritime maps warn not to go near. There were numerous whirlpools on the way out which were big enough to devour a car. I got some good videos. And a life time of memories. We spent a week on Islay and toured every distillery there. We also spent a week on the mainland visiting some distilleries. I emphasized tasting Scotches that aren't available in the US. |
