| just bought a house and it has two hot water heaters both are plumbed in but only one has power to it. so i want to remove the one thats not wired. now do i just cap off the two lines going to it? or join the two lines? |

Cap the water lines. Use a gator bite with a cap and use teflon tape or plumbers putty on any threads unless it has a seal of some sort already. Eta, if you are unscrewing the lines as some have them now and then, just cap those lines and no gator bite is needed but just the appropriate threaded cap. Also make sure the lines are cut smooth and clean with a pipe tool if using a gator bite. Also check to confirm its not wired as it may have just tripped the breaker inside the unit. |

A water heater normally doesn't require any power. (unless it's electric) If you cap the inlet/outlets your fixtures served by that water heater will have cold water only. Nothing from the hot side . If you connect the two together you will get cold water from both the hot and cold water at the fixtures. -W
