...a true blank firing only replica? http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=8164853 That looks like a real M16 lower to me. |
| it sure does look like an M16 lower to me as well, however, look at the hammer pin, it looks like it's larger than the trigger pin, not sure what that means though...could it be a movie prop gun that is somehow legal? I don't know but it sure looks like a real upper could be installed. |

Hmm... If it is a blank-firing gun, you'd have to see the mag-well to be sure... Doesn't Colt have a way you can ask them the status of a S/N (i.e. was it a MG, AR, never issued by Colt, etc)??? However, (assuming it's a real blank gun) it technically never was a machinegun (since it's technically not a gun as far as the ATF is concerned), so if it were converted to a 'real gun' in the form of a semi-only AR-15 it should be legal (they can't 'once a Machinegun, Allways a Machinegun' you if it was never a MG)... OTOH, it would technically be a POST BAN, as the reciever wasn't in a complete AW before 1994 (wasn't even a gun, you see...)... Of course, they'd have to prove it was a blank-gun... |
| I saw this exact same thing at a show in Allentown, PA a few months back. Looked real to me, but was priced way low. Posted as much in the meetings and events forum and another member that was at the show told me it was a toy. It was on a table next to a bunch of Airsofts... |

If one was to try re-activation, you'd probably need a new upper (most replicas don't use 'proper' metals for barrels, etc). And that's assuming that the lower really is in-spec (i.e. there's a buffer tube back there (or at least the proper threads/cut-outs), it fits AR mags, and such)... |
