Norton let the computer get a bad case of iHerpes, I had to use the restore discs, reload Google Earth and drivers for the graphics card, etc.

The new Google Earth is far better than the old as is the resolution of the most recent satellite imagery.  You can look at the imagery back in the past, the present images are astounding.

So, I tried some approaches to SAN airport at San Diego, using 3-D scenery.  This was most excellent but it got better.

There is an aircraft carrier moored at North Island, not the museum carrier, though that is there too, just across the water.  I just had to try some bounce and go's off the carrier.  Turns out the carrier does not have a hard deck, the plane sinks through the deck but just add power and fly up out of the ship.

When you fly by the museum carrier, the plane types on it's deck are recognizable.  Over at SAN the planes on the ground have correct liveries and the guy on the tail of Alaska planes is visible.

I used the piston plane model for approaches to SAN at about 125 to 130 kts.  This model can give you correct jet approach speeds.

We live in a time of excellent toys.

I love it, I've been flying it for almost 8 years and I couldn't even count how many hours. I use the mouse and keyboard and it works just fine. I can fly the F-16 like it's my bitch. I fly it every day.  You can also fly under water(like the flying sub off the Seaview)and it actually will go faster under water than in the air. You can fly on mars and the moon too.

Next you're going to be telling us that MS FSX, a yoke and throttle setup, and just going around in circles while talking to the tower, then doing a touch and go, then going around in circles for ages isn't realistic.

you can buy the cheapest joystick and it's funnerer.   I'm using the arrow keys for the piston plane...scouting my hunting unit.  the elk are hanging in the same spot this year.
