Ray Charles can see that Islam is inconsistent with our Constitution and values. Our Anglo-Saxon heritage, and our larger western civilization, with it's gifts of individual freedom are the foundations of our prosperity and happiness.
There is a surgeon at work who is a MINO. We have gone shooting, exchanged bottles of whisky and eaten very haraam Tex Mex food together many times. He came here legally as a teen from Iran. He worked all kinds of shit jobs to pay his way through undergrad. Loans for med school in Alabama. Residency in Dallas. Back to Alabama for years because he loved the people there who he will tell you were very good to him. Well, he's very good to his people. He takes OR people out to dinner and picks up the tab. He is a generous guy. He ain't much of a Muslim but he is a good person. I like MINOs. |

He hasn't been to a mosque in probably 30 years drinks at any social event. He s a solid guy. Also I should mention he s a navy vet. |

I think that in the so-called "Muslim world," the truly devout Muslims are a distinct minority, and then the militant jihadists are a minority within that minority. The most populous "Muslim" country in the world, Indonesia, doesn't seem to produce many fanatics.
Unlike Christianity, Islam has no creed. Simply reciting the rubric, "There is no God but God (Allah), and Mohammed is His Prophet," makes one a Muslim. So a lot of people in those countries follow the path of least resistance, say the rubric, and are left alone. That said, the way to turn moderates into fanatics is for the West to lump all Muslims together as "the enemy." They would push back. This is precisely what groups like al Qaeda are hoping for. |

I would say the Bosnian community around here is pretty MINO. Overall they tend to be good, hardworking people that also enjoy drinking a lot and hosting a good BBQ.
A coworker was telling me the other day that he just took delivery on one of those large wooden playgrounds you put in your backyard for your kids. He's getting his tools out to assemble and his Bosnian neighbor pokes his head out the back door, asks him what he's up to. Bosnian neighbor whistles, shouts into the house and five other Bosnian men come over and immediately start helping with assembly. They weren't asked for help, the just threw in the labor because it's the neighborly thing to do. They're good people. |
