Aransweatermarket.com Ive got a couple of them. Once you go wool, you will never go back. Got a couple for work, they're warm as fuck. One with a couple buttons and shawl collar, too. |

Anyone have a real 100% Irish wool sweater? How is it to wear, any size or wearing recommendations? Any opinions on sources. Sweater such as this: https://www.aransweatermarket.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Heavyweight.jpg Made in Scotland (so it wasn't Irish) Slight itching not very noticeable, especially if you wear long sleeve underneath. I wore one in Scotland (I was the ONLY person besides Ewan McGregor apparently) and I wore just about everything that was the opposite color or style that the rest of Scotland wore. They are TOASTY hot even in the fall in the Highlands. I was happy when the wind would blow by. The companies are pretty good about their sizing charts. I had a large and it was fine as far as sleeve length, waist length and shoulder space. Don't get white. I ate at McDonalds of all places in Glasgow and spilled ketchup on it.

My grandad gave me this gem. It's pretty unbearable to wear without long sleeves underneath. When I get old I will wear it while a smoke a wooden pipe. http://s5.postimg.org/4n9nb3d9z/20150920_214327.jpg http://s5.postimg.org/dh0js708n/20150920_214335.jpg Already rock a pipe, so I am well on my way. |

I am usually a 38-40 short in a suit jacket so,p I figure a medium. |

Dude, in SC, you'll get to wear it approximately four to five days a year. South Carolina isn't known for its harsh winters. From December to March it should be good for going out on the chilly days. We had a few good weeks of cold last year, and El Dingo is back this year! |

I am usually a 38-40 short in a suit jacket so,p I figure a medium. Yeah, unlike Asian companies, their sizing is on par with US figures. Most of the guys there are our height if not our build. So medium should be good, not sure about the sleeve length though but as I said, the legitimate companies are good on returns and have good sizing charts and customer service. I didn't have any problems, although I did buy it locally over in the UK. I have seen old school photos of fisherman rolling their sleeves up. I was trying to "gun safe" mine and still spilled ketchup on it like a genius. They go from nice to ridiculously nice like $350 USD pricing. I was in a shop in Edinburgh looking like some fetish freak rubbing and touching all the different ones like some dog humping a leg. The staff looked at me weird but took it in stride. I got a Norwegian fisherman sweater that was way more itchy in comparison but even toastier. In January I was baking hot and couldn't layer it at all without having to sweat. If you stick with one of the more established companies I don't think you'll go wrong. It's not cheap but it's not like Chinese stuff that you throw away every 2 years. It's lifetime pass on to your kids quality stuff. |

I only wear mine when it's particularly cold in WY/SD/NE...we're talking -20+ windchills. It's not something I'd wear on a 40 degree day. |

A real mcoy aran sweater is unbelievably warm , i use to have one
that was knitted by my ex mother in law , it was an awesome sweater that sucker kept me warm many a day for the ny winters, oh and by the way i would probably recommend that you only dry clean it . |
| My wife and me both got one for ourselves when we visited Ireland last year. Needless to say, either one of us have worn them since then because, well we live in Florida. They are super comfortable and warm though if that is what you are looking for. I forgot which brand we both got though, every store in Ireland sells them, all of different qualities and patterns. The highest quality are the fully handwoven ones and go all the down in quality to mass produced machine made ones. You can tell the difference in both comfort and weight of them. |

I had one.
Whenever I wore it, it made me bray incessantly about injustice, repression of the downtrodden underclass, and the unfairly high cost of whiskey. I also went on the public dole for a while. My ambition level and overall attitude improved dramatically after I donated it to Goodwill.

I bought one last from this place http://www.aransweatermarket.com
Sizing instructions are typically listed on the websites..I have a 38 " chest so went with a small. Wearing it is no issue, not itchy or scratchy though ill usually wear a merino wool long sleeve pullover under it. Sometimes I'll feel bad when wearing it because Im not Irish though. FYI, you'll more than likely have to pay import duties. |

It is good to hear that they are not hype, like most things, nowadays. Is there a color that tends to last longer or look better over time. I am leaning towards the natural color, with flecks, like in the picture. There is a color called Blackwatch, that I like, which is very unique. English wool sweaters are very good also IMHO. Let me look at a site that sells them at reduced prices........................ |

Some nice stuff there. Txl |

The prices on the Irish goods site above are very good compared to what I saw in Ireland a few years ago. |

IIRC, the British Isles passed a law where sweaters (clothing of certain composition) are duty/VAT free if sold overseas. So, we can now save a good amount ordering directly from their companies. |

Depending on where in SC you live; there is an Irish Import Store in Galtlinburg TN that has all sorts of clothes.
