Someone at my GFs work got her a Roku for her birthday. The TV she has is an older one with no HDMI. Has anyone had any luck with this? It looks like the converters range from $25-$200 but some convert TO HDMI and some convert FROM HDMI. Is it even worth it?

The Roku HDMI streaming stick will have HDCP encryption so a simple HDMI to Component/Composite does not work.
HDCP is a copy protection scheme that looks for a digital handshake on both ends.
Component/Composite  is analog and hence no HDCP.

You need a device like an HDFury that has HDMI input with HDCP decryption that then converts to analog component.
This device works extremely well, but it is also 300.00.
Website is HDFury.com

It would probably be cheaper and less frustrating to buy a new TV.

I use this for my bedroom TV with a busted HDMI port.  The HDCP check fails and it's not worth it to replace the board.
