Won't firing it for that length of time destroy the barrels with all the heat?  How hot can you get a barrel with out hurting it?  I saw an M-16 get so hot it was glowing, it that too hot?

I'm willing to bet that scene was shot in many takes allowing the gun to cool off and be reloaded.

If Jesse wasn't hard of hearing before, he certainly will be now!  Damn, I don't see how he did that.  A few years back, a local vet owned two, yes TWO, of the dozen or so GE miniguns licensed to civilians (the vet business, she is good, no?[:D]).  He had them mounted on a Ma Deuce tripod bolted to the floor of a utility trailer.  At a fun shoot the local gun club had, he capped off two belts of 200 rounds each simultaneously.  Needless to say, this lasted all of, oh, a microsecond.  I stood behind him on the trailer with a videocam.  The noise was beyond hearing; I actually felt the contents of my stomach move, and the videocam I was holding went from color to black and white!  Everybody just stood in utter shock for about 5 seconds after the last round.  That's my extremely limited experience with miniguns, I can't imagine what its like to actually fire virtually unlimited ammo like this.

Lesse, suppose the average rifle barrel lasts, say 6000 rounds.  Now, 5 barrels (is it 5?), at 3000 rounds/minute total, that's like 600 rounds/minute/barrel, that's, lessee here, carry the five, minus two, 30 days has September....

...10 seconds and they're toast!!![heavy]

That's a great way to describe it!

I had the experience of a lifetime on a Tiger Cruise a few years back on USS Nimitz of standing about 20 feet away from the aft Phalanx mount for a demonstration.  2 long bursts.

The event is impossible to describe accurately.  It’s truly one of those “you have to have been there” things.  I've heard Naval aviators describe a trap as the most fantastic sexual experience of your life and a car wreck combined.  That's sort of what it was like standing next to the M61 running at full rate.  Just thinking about it now gives me chills.

In the video, the dillon was described the fastest firing gun in the world at 3,000 rounds per minute, yet the Phalanx is 4,500.

Does the Phalanx use linked ammo?  I'm not sure.  I've always seen minigun firing rates as higher with unlinked ammo.

Besides, no self respecting TV producer would let Jesse fire the "second fastest firing gun in the world" - know what I mean?[;D]
