| Can any of you people tell me about your experiences with storing/purchasing MRES. I really only want to hear about bad experiences you dealt with personally. You people that only read shit and not personally experience it please stfu. |

No bad experiences here..
I've eaten MRE's that are a couple of years past the expired date or whatever it is and detected no difference from ones that were not expired. That said I've got about a half dozen cases here that are getting close to being expired that I will probably donate soon to the local scouts... |

Bad experiences? They will stop you up if you eat them sumbitches like they're going out of style! It'll be like giving birth to a Toyota Prius out of your asshole when you try and shit! Other then that....GTG! Just pace yourself brudder! Pretty much this. It's not going to be a first meal choice but in a pinch it'll do fine. Storing them can be a pain depending on space and temp of what you have. I've had some that were 9-10yo it was ok I didn't eat the cheese and the Tabasco turned brown but the rest of the meal was decent not like >5 yo one would be though. |

I had MREs from the 80s, only bad was (and it wasn't with every meal).........
Kool Aid, cream and coffee had dried to a chunk that wouldn't dissolve very well. Candy had melted. The plastic wrapper wouldn't come off. Cheese spread looked kind of brown. Tobasco had crusted over. So, I had to use a small pick to get it to flow again. I had some newer ones where the heat pack didn't work. Overall, the meals were still good. Aloha, Mark |

I've only had good experiences after eating many cases of them. Oops, sorry, you didn't want to hear about that. ETA: After reading the post below me I will also talk about the old heaters. I had a bunch of the 1991 ones, and using them after they were over 25 years old I did have a couple that didn't get as hot as they should. |

You people? What do you mean, "you people"? Never had a bad experience with MREs and I've been eating them for over a decade. Commercial items won't last as long as the meal portions, same goes with cheese and peanut butter. As with anything food related, look, smell, taste. ETA: I guess I have had "bad experiences" with the old heaters. Never had a problem with the current gen ones. |

Other then that....GTG! Just pace yourself brudder! When I'm at work (2 week hitch) I have them for lunch. Never had a problem other than having leftover snacks. PB and crackers gets old. Love the cheese spread on crackers. I have eaten both the a and b menu on a daily basis. Lots of calories. You will not lose weight eating them. I once had some civvie mre's . They had less variety and every one of them had peanut m&ms. Those don't hold up well in the heat. I get all my mre's at the army surplus store now. |

I have a case of freeze-dried LRRP rations that date from the Vietnam War in my collection. I'm not about to open them to find out if they're still good. Like the proverbial barrel of anchovies, they're for buying and selling (or, in this case, collecting) and not for eating.

I pushed out some MRE turds in Iraq that were big enough for wandering camel herders to hollow out and use for shelters. I'm pretty sure they are still being used. |

How many are you eating a day? lol You should be able to get by with one a day. We ate them only, for months in 2003 in Iraq. I lost 50 lbs. |
| Most of mine are still good. A few months ago I worked through lunch and decided to pop a more that had been in the truck for 3 years. I decided I would wait for a restaurant after smelling that beef patty. As far as other stuff, I have eaten it years out of date. |

You know that the hotter the environment they are in the shorter the life correct? I store mine inside the house. |
|
Get them out of the sunlight and into the cool inside of the house. You're killing my OCD here!
