The wife wants a better camera than a point and shoot. I was in Costco and saw this Costco

Is this a good camera and a good deal? She wants something for general use and shooting the kids sports. I know that real good cameras cost a lot more but budget is a factor.

Yes, it is a good beginner DSLR. It do an excellent job. A good camera for the money.

I now get the joy of learning how to best use a DSLR and then teaching my technology challenged wife. There is a community college that offers adult classes on cameras. I think it will be well worth it to just sign her up for that.

They are good cameras. I have the rebel xti and it has professional settings and stupid setting you can use. So as you learn you can adjust your skills.

Good camera for the money but the 75-300MM lens isn't well regarded. I had one, it worked well when I didn't try using beyond its reach, but don't mention on a photography board that you have a 75-300. It's like coming here and saying your DPMS suits your purposes perfectly.

Within its limitations the 75-300 is OK, just keep in mind it's on the slow side for focusing and needs a lot of light.
